One such family member was Colonel John Troup who purchased 168 acres (0.7 km2) of land at Gulf Breeze in 1853 after serving as an artillery officer in Mexico City during the Mexican-American War. He donated this land to establish what would become today's Stuart County. For many years, local residents cultivated corn, cotton, fruits and vegetables on this acreage which raised their families within walking distance of their home while enjoying access to public goods like water tanks, schools and churches. Today, much of what once constituted Colonel Troup's farm has been replaced by businesses including two breweries (Anheuser Busch Lambert & Co./Anheuser Busch InBev), four shopping malls (Saks Fifth Avenue/ Macy’s Inc., Sears Holdings Corporation/, JCPenney Company/, Neiman Marcus Group/) as well as over 50 homes developments totaling more than 2 million sq ft (8700 m2). The agricultural activity which once sustained these communities has since disappeared but remnants can be found throughout rural areas adjacent to Stewarttown; for example - miles long rows of corn cribs scattered through rolling countryside or evidence left behind from past bird feeders jutting out from fields now used for housing development

Stuart, Florida was founded by English settlers in the early 1800s. The area now known as Stuart was part of what is now Pensacola County. In 1821, the first post office in the area was established at Indian Wells, and in 1828, Stuart became a town. By 1840, the population of Stuart had reached 30 people. The first school in Stuart was established in 1847 and classes began on January 16th under the name of “Pensacola Female Academy”. The first president of the school board was Mrs. Ayscough Hargrave. By 1860, there were 10 schools in Stuart and over 100 students were enrolled in them. In 1865, a new courthouse was built for $4,500 and it served as the town hall until 1906 when it burned down. In 1895, a land grant to James Bledsoe for 1,000 acreswas issued and he began to develop what is now known as Bledsoe Park which includes parts of Bledsoe Heights and Happy Valley neighborhoods today. However, due to financial difficulties he sold most of his holdings within 5 years and died penniless before completing his project however his legacy lives on through Stuarts Waterfront Park which occupies much of his original land grant today
Stuart, Florida is a census-designated place located in Leon County, Florida. The population was 1,913 at the 2010 census.
