In the early 1900s, firearms were a common part of many Stuart residents' daily lives. The town was founded in 1853 and its economy was based on agriculture. Firearms were a popular choice for target shooting, as they were easy to control and could provide deadly results. In 1907, the first handgun permit was issued in Stuart and it wasn't until 1911 that rifles became available for purchase. Shotguns weren't allowed at this time. Ammunition was also scarce at this time and most people relied on handguns for their protection. Stuart's growth as a small town led to its emergence as one of Florida's leading firearms manufacturers. By the early 1920s, the town had become home to more than 50 businesses and had become established as an important center for pistol manufacturing in Florida. It wasn't until 1923 that shotguns began being produced in Stuart again. In 1935, ammunition production ended in Stuart because of the Depression which made firearm ownership more difficult to come by. However, pistols continued to be manufactured here through World War II until 1945 when guns stopped being produced altogether due to prohibition laws enacted during that time period. Since then, firearms have not been produce locally in Stuart but instead have been imported from other countries or sold online.. In 1994, Stuarts gun store reopened after being closed for over 25 years due to fire regulations changes which impacted American gun stores at that time period

Stuart, Florida is a town located in Monroe County, Florida. The population was 9,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jacksonville metropolitan area. The first permanent settlers in Stuart were two brothers by the name of McConnell and their families from Kentucky who arrived on July 3, 1824. They named their community after General James Wilkinson who had recently been appointed United States Minister to Great Britain as part of a diplomatic mission. The Wilkinson family eventually became proprietors of much of what exists in Stuart today including parts of Main Street and North Avenue. In 1825, an additional brother by the name of Heard bought some land east of present day Sutherland Avenue and built a cabin known as “Homespun” which still stands to this day. This initial settlement would become known as Stuart because it was located on high ground near present day Interstate 495 (now I-95). During its early years, Stuart served as both a stop on the Mobile and Tennessee Railroad and also boasted one of the earliest Methodist churches in Monroe County when it was founded in 1830 by Revs John Henton and James Caldwell. In 1851, when organized county government was established under Monroe County Naturalization Act there were only five residents living in what is now downtown Stuart; all were farmers or mechanics who voted with their cows for local officials at village meetings. By 1860, most residents had either left for other parts of the state or moved away due to various factors such as agricultural problems caused by harsh weather conditions or competition from more populous towns within Monroe County; however, many original settlers remain buried here including: Jno & Middie McConnell (1824-1900), Geo Fenton (1850-1910), Wm McAuley (1860-1920), Henery Pyle (1861-1945) and Mrs Elisha Stroudman (baptized December 17th 1865). By 1870 there were over 100 people living here with most working on farmssteads around town while some formed small businesses like blacksmith shops or laundry services throughout central Jacksonville during that time period. Lutheran missionary Rev Dr David Starratt arriving here in 1875 soon began preaching at what would be then known as Christ Lutheran Church before moving his ministry to nearby Dothan where he continue doing so until his death six years later at age 83 years old A fire destroyed much furniture inside Christ Lutheran Church devastating it for several weeks prior to its reconstruction beginning on October 7th 1886 which included adding an addition out back that still serves today as headquarters for First Presbyterian Church – Stuart . Notable members associated with this rebuild include: Jno & Middie McConnell’s son Royce(1887-1975), Reverend Dr David Starratt’s wife Lillian(née Whitehead) (1883-1960), Harry Arden Grimes(1902-1993)and Mrs Alma Swanson(1904-) . A new church building was erected adjacent to First Presbyterian Church – Stuart between 1922 - 1925 called Second Presbyterian South since that congregation joined hands with First Presbyterian South approximately two miles down Fourth Street from main square . Again notables associated with this project include: Jno & Middie McConnell’s son Royce(1887-1975), Reverend Dr David Starratt’s wife Lillian(née Whitehead) (1883-1960), Harry Arden Grimes(1902-1993)and Mrs Alma Swanson(1904-)

Stuart was founded in 1894 by American soldiers who were stationed there during World War I. The town was named for General James Stonington, an officer with the 1st Infantry Division who fought in France and Germany during World War I. The town began to grow rapidly following World War II as military retirees moved into the area. In 1972, Stuart became one of thirteen communities in south Miami-Dade County to receive city status from then- Mayor Carlos Gimenez. Stuart experienced significant growth after Hurricane Andrew struck in 1992. The community's economy grew largely due to its location on UFAD Marriotts Alltel Stadium which served as both a training ground for local law enforcement and home to many professional athletes when the stadium was used primarily for football games and other events. In 2006, Stuart celebrated its centennial anniversary with a series of events including a parade and fireworks display over downtown Stuart on July 4th followed by a dinner theater production of "The Book Thief" that night at Marriott's Alltel Stadium
Stuart, Florida was founded by Stuart C. Flournoy in 1892. The town was named after General James K. Polk who fought in the Mexican-American War and was nominated for President of the United States by then-Senator Andrew Johnson. The town was founded on a plantation that Flournoy had purchased from Manuel de la Costa y Costilla.
