Gun protection history in St. Petersburg, Florida began with the establishment of the first police department in the town on November 17, 1855. The first regulation governing firearms was passed by the Board of Commissioners on December 3, 1857. There were no restrictions on owning or possessing firearms until 1912 when a state law prohibited concealed carry without a permit. In 1911, prohibition was repealed and unrestricted concealed carry became legal statewide. In response to this change in policy, many citizens formed gun clubs to provide safe storage and handling for their firearms. These organizations continued to operate until after repeal of Prohibition in 1933. The post-prohibition period saw an increase in gun thefts from residences and businesses throughout St. Petersburg County due to lack of firearm regulation and Crossfire Protection Act requirements which limited carrying of handguns within one’s home or place of work). On October 20, 1934, the posting of signs banning handgun Carry within 100 feet of any public building was erected throughout the city limits as well as all unincorporated areas outside those boundaries (a move designed to reduce crime). This measure was effective at reducing crime but did not take into account that some residents still retained access to handguns for personal protection purposes

He named this island AnnaMaria after his wife Lady Maria Broadhurst who had accompanied him on the voyage. In 1819–20 Captain John Loughborough sailed eastward through Seminole Strait into Gulf Stream bay and discovered Pinellas County while anchored off shore at Fort Pierce; he named it for Lieutenant Governor George Abert who had procured his commission in 1784 as first lieutenant under generals James MacDonough and Timothy Pickering during The War for Independence against Spain Canary Islands (see History Of Saint Petersburg). In 1821Captain Augustus Wright explored Pensacola Bay then traveled along Gulf Coast to what are now Clearwater Beach, Satellite Beach & Old Town Saint Pete before returning ashore at today's downtown St Pete on July 14th 1821; he called this land "Estonia". However recent economic downturn has resulted in many jobs being lost across many sectors which has led some people towards moving away from downtown St Petersburg or investing elsewhere .. In 1889, Fort Myers became a separate county within Hillsborough County and St. Petersburg annexed it on January 1, 1889. The annexation caused some controversy because Fort Myers had been an open-air military post since 1798 while St. Petersburg had been a port town since its founding! The city of St Pete's growth paralleled that of its adjacent neighbor to the north – Tampa – which became one of America's largest populated cities after becoming a state in 1907 with additions from Hardee Countys Pinellas and Manatee counties (the three original counties that made up Tampa). Growth continued through World War II as more people moved to the area due to new jobs created during the war effort; however, after the end of World War II there was significant decline in population throughout most parts of Southeast Florida due to various factors including suburbanization and loss of manufacturing jobs
