After fortifications were completed in 1840 and 1841 by Captain James Wilkinson and Commodore David Dixon Jr., Fort Myers became an important base from which operations were conducted against Seminole Indians being hunted in Florida during this time period (circa 1840-1846). In 1845 Nikolai Ivanovich Lobanovsky purchased land east of today's downtown from Captain Wilkinson for $5 per acre ($25 million in current dollars) which became known as Lobanovsky Heights; today it continues along US 2nd Avenue south past Club Street into downtown where it meets US 1st Avenue just north of Terminal Park Island extending Westward across NAS Beach towards Ft Lauderdale International Airport and Port Everglades National Park becoming lost within Today’s Map Of Downtown

As part of President James Kiefer Kenney’s push to modernize Congress following his inauguration in February 1865†(*See articles on that period ), Pacheco designed an impressive new building including a large central rotunda surrounded by colonnades flanked by wings azure blue and white; inside there are two large marble staircases leading up to each other with elaborate ironwork railing **(see photograph) . At 1 million square feet (.8 million sq m)²*,Donelson Barrackswasoneofthelargest buildings ever constructed in Washington D . C . It was also one of the largest single purchases made by SecretaryofWar Edwin Stanton during his tenure (1865-69)* *. The city of St. Petersburg, Florida was founded on April 14, 1837, by Captain John P. Morgan and his brother-in-law, Rear Admiral David Wilmot. The city was named for Russian general Pyotr Vasilevsky and his wife Anna Karenina. The first settler in the city was George Washington Smith who arrived in 1839. In 1840, the first courthouse in the city was built and it served as the seat of justice for a year until it was replaced by a new courthouse built in1846 which still stands today. The first schools were established inSt. Petersburg in 1847 and they included: one school for children under five years old and one school for students six to nineteen years old. In 1861, Confederate forces burned down the original courthouse while occupying St Petersburg; however, within a few months of this event, Union forces restored the building to its former glory. By 1865, St Petersburg had become an important center for cotton production due to its location at the mouth of Tampa Bay and its access to shipping lanes which made it an ideal port for goods being shipped abroad during World War II. After World War II ended, St Petersburg experienced rapid growth with development taking place throughout downtown including several highrise buildings that remain extant today such as One America Plaza (now known as Citigroup Tower) and Battery Park South which are now major tourist attractions
