This target was located on the corner of Third Street and High Street. It was made from oak boards and it measured 20 feet by 30 feet. Hinkle also created other targets such as a cannonball, an eagle, and a soldier. Over time, different people started shooting at these targets. In 1916, a man named Johnnie Lee Rigby shot three people at a public show near the Target Center in St Cloud. This event is often cited as the beginning of gun targeting festivities in this small town. In 1924, another man named Harmon Killebrew set up his own target range on Eighth Street in St Cloud. He used nothing but lead shot for his targets! This ranges continues to be used to shoot today by people who love to shoot at targets outdoors or inside their living rooms!

The town was founded by Norwegian immigrants in 1881 and named for their patron saint, St. Nick (later renamed to Nicholas). In 1905, the name was changed again to honor Alexander Graham Bell after his invention of the telephone. The history of St. Cloud goes back over 100 years and includes multiple movements of people and businesses from Norway to America during that time period. The first settlers arrived in 1881 when Norwegian immigrants landed on American soil with boats built by themselves using wood they had brought over from Norway’s highlands. They named their new town “St Cloud” after their patron saint – Saint Nick – which would later be renamed to Nicholas because Americans were not familiar with that particular saint at that time (nor did they know about his role as a missionary among the native Eskimos). During World War I, many Norwegians served in our military and some continued onto into World War II; however, most settled down here permanently once hostilities ended and things calmed down a bit following World War I. In 1905, when Alexander Graham Bell invented the Telephone he called this place “ housedownia” because he could only dial numbers one through seven using a hand crank instead of having an operator connect him with other numbers like everyone else then! After decades of innovation and progress made by locals & visitors alike our downtown has become home to plenty of cultural attractions including two performing arts academies (the Cirque du Soleil School Of Music & Dance) as well as numerous shops/cafes/bars/restaurants all within walking distance or bike ride away from each other making it easy for residents & tourists alike to get around town without feeling too crowded or isolated from what makes St Cloud so special!
