St. Cloud is a city in the US state of Minnesota, located on the east side of the St. Croix River. The population was 382 at the 2010 census. The first Europeans to visit what is now St. Cloud were French Voyagers in 1616 and 1617 along with other Frenchmen and Indian traders looking for fur trade routes to North America. In 1821,Minnesota became a Territory of Missouri when it was acquired by that state from Illinois; Saint Cloud continued to be part of Missouri until it was admitted into Minnesota as its capitol in 1862. Saint Cloud experiences rapid growth during this time because it became an important railway hub connecting Minneapolis-St Paul with all over central Minnesota and northern Wisconsin; thenceforth dubbed "the Great Lakes Frontier". In 1907,the city annexed the neighboring town of West Saint Cloud which had been established as a farming community by Dakota farmers following European settlement of that region during the 1870s and 1880s. In 1916, St Cloud voters passed a new charter allowing for women to vote while still being considered property residents within their respective households – one reason why it is often cited as one of the most female-friendly cities in America. During World War II, St Cloud played host to many military installations including Fort Snelling (now known as Nicollet Barracks) and Camp Bearden near downtown where hundreds thousands American soldiers were housed before they left for war overseas in 1942 and 1943 respectively In 1957, Mayor John Nilsson522 appointed planning director Donahue who had worked at City Hall in Minneapolis before moving up to lead development plans for both Minneapolis-Saint Paul and SaintCloud Incorporation adopted comprehensive urban planning principles spearheaded by then City Planning Director Harold Wittenborn523 creating what would come to be known as formal design guidelines for contemporary municipalities throughout North America which continue to be used today – much like how Rome planners laid out their original plans centuries ago! This innovative approach helped spur industrial growth across central Minnesota while also helping develop downtown into one of North America’s premier shopping areas In 1978–79 Mayor Harry Bennett524 unveiled “ribbon cordon” redevelopment plan calling for high-density housing developments around downtown cores whileSouthern Boulevard between Seventh Street/Winnipeg Avenue And State Street/Hennepin Avenue would become two major arterials bourgeois lifestyle center surrounded by dense commercial districts serving large universities such as Northwestern Mutual or Drexel University 525 With associated job training programs available nearby jobs never readily available elsewhere began appearing on blocks surrounding Northern Boulevard becoming known as “the north side”

The St. Cloud area was first settled by Europeans in the early 1800s. In 1824, a group of Norwegian settlers named their settlement "St. Cloud" after Saint Cloud, Finland, where they had been living for some time. The town was originally built on the site of an old Indian trading post. In 1855, the town was renamed "St. Cloud" after President James K. Polk's visit to the area during his America's Great Western trip. The original town square was located at what is now Main Street and State Road 20 (now US-441). The first school in Stcloud was built in 1856 and remained open until 1918 when it closed due to financial troubles. In 1886, a railroad line called the Minnesota Central Railway came through the area and changed its name to the St. Cloud Railway Company; this led to the development of a large business district around downtown which still exists today. On May 12th, 1865, General Ulysses S Grant visited StCloud while on his way to Gettysburg and recommended that it be named as one of three towns along General Sherman's march through Georgia that would receive land grants in order to help them build homes and farms: East Atlanta (later Savannah), Decatur (the current DeKalb County), and Macon (the present-day Union County). On December 5th, 1865, Mayor John Fenton met with General Sherman at his headquarters near Chattanooga in order to accept these gifts and name StCloud as one of four towns along Sherman's march through Tennessee: Lookout Mountain (Nashville), Franklin ( Nashville), Murfreesboro (Milton City), and Sparta (Gainesville). On January 25th, 1916 Governor John Denton signed legislation naming all four towns part of Lakeland District; this districts included parts of Chattahoochee Valley including StCloud as well as most of Muskegon Heights east of Mound Bayou including Decatur/Macon/Union Counties.. In 1937-1938 two hurricanes caused extensive damage throughout northern Florida; however no casualties were reported from either storm although power outages lasted several days both times.. Hurricane Floyd also caused extensive damage but no fatalities were reported from it either.. After World War II ended there was significant growth within northeastern Florida due mainly to agricultural production which continued until 1950 when new Auto plants began moving into northeast Florida making jobs available.. By 1971 much forest had been lost due mostly To clear land for agriculture especially soybean farming which continues even today During later years many people started leaving northeast Florida for job opportunities elsewhere because OFA has not invested heavily enough money into developing our state’s interior .. continuing problems such as poverty rates among certain groups have plagued northeast Florida ever since
St. Cloud was founded in 1821 by Vikings, and is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in Florida. The city was home to a large Norwegian population until the late 1800s, when all but a few of them moved away to become farmers or ranchers in other parts of Florida. In 1907, St. Cloud became the capital of Polk County after Tallahassee became the capital of Seminole County.
