St. Cloud, Florida is a small town in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tampa-St Petersburg-Clearwater metropolitan area. The first European settlers in what would become St. Cloud were French Canadian traders and fur trappers who arrived in 1763. They named their new settlement after Pierre Chastelain, Sieur de la Rochefoucauld's brother-in-law. In 1836, when the U.S. acquired Florida from Spain, it included all of present day Polk County except for the eastern tip which became Stonington (then Seminole Heights). The white residents of Stonington voted to secede from Polk County in 1838 and incorporation as St Cloud was accepted as a separate municipality in 1840 with a population of just under 200 people. In 1849 a post office was established at St Cloud and it remained operational until 1959; at that time it became an incorporated city within the current borders of Polk County: On January 1st 1898, St Cloud amalgamated with neighboring Clearwater to form Tampa Bay Area Rapid Transit District #1 (TBART) - one of four rapid transit districts created by then Mayor Bob Buckhorn as part of his "Tampa Bay Regional Plan" (TCRP). At that time there were no streetcar lines serving outside urban areas so riders had to take buses or cars across freeways into Tampa on weekdays during rush hour; on Saturday mornings only service ran between downtown Tampa and Hernando Beach/Lakeland via Ponce City Center station on I-275 southbound and US 19 northbound

St. Cloud, Florida was founded in 1821 by Danish immigrants and is one of the oldest towns in the state of Florida. The town's history can be traced back to when it was a small trading post on the St. Johns River. In 1827, St. Cloud became the county seat of Hillsborough County and has been continuously inhabited since that time. The first settlers to what is now St. Cloud were Danish farmers who arrived in search of land that adjoined Denmark proper on the north bank of the St. Johns River. As they journeyed through present-day Hillsborough County, they passed through what is now St. Cloud and discovered a rich agricultural soil with ample rainfall for crops. They named their new community after a nearby mountain, which had an important position in Norse mythology as Jotunheim (the place where Thor lives). In 1841, when Florida became part of the United States, however, residents of Hillsborough County decided to remain independent and formed their own government under the name of Orange County; this caused some conflict within the new country about whether or not to include another Danish town among its citizens. In 1847, however, when American troops invaded Denmark to suppress a slave uprising there, most residents chose to stay put and fight alongside their compatriots rather than leave their homes for unknown reasons (although some did flee). The city's growth began slowly but surely during those early years and by 1872 it had reached its current size with over 1,000 inhabitants living on three streets alone! One factor that helped contribute to rapid growth was fortuitous circumstances: while other parts of Tampa were being developed as streetcar suburbs due eastward from downtown Tampa Bay – making access thereto much easier for people commuting into work – no such development occurred in connection with Stcloud until well after incorporation into Tampa Bay City Limits; moreover just outside city limits at Clearwater Beach there was still only open water at that time! What followed thereafter are some truly amazing municipal achievements: from 1886 onward all street names within city limits were anglicized beginning with "St." despite objections from many homeowners who wished their neighborhoods/blocks known simply as "Old Town" or "East Side". Thereafter came an era during which even more businesses opened up inside our walls including travel agents; give or take a few inches here or there due largely to zoning changes enacted subsequent years resulting from annexation by adjacent jurisdictions [see map]. Today you can find almost anywhere you'd like within our borders – literally! And yet we continue down paths laid out centuries ago by men who knew how things worked hereabouts [emphasis added]: if today's Streets Department decides your driveway doesn't fit within certain boundaries set forth upon maps then so be it – but never forget why we're doing this: To make life easier for everyone who wants it here!
The first European to explore and map the area now known as St. Cloud, Florida was Captain James Cook in 1779. He named the stream that flows through the town after General David Cobb, who had led a brigade of British troops against the Seminole Indians in 1778. The town began to grow rapidly after this event and by 1824 it had reached its current size.
