The history of gun sights in St. Cloud, Florida goes back to the early 1800s. One of the first settlers in this area was John Dickey, who arrived in 1821. He built a cabin on what is now state Road 7 near present day Midway Park. Dickey also started a mercantile business and he developed a notable interest in firearms. In 1825, he purchased land adjoining what is now State Road 7 and founded the town of Midway around his store. The first post office was established in mid-1826. It operated under the name "Midway." By 1840, there were over 100 residents living in Midway Village and by 1850, there were over 200 residents living in Midway Township. From 1851 until 1865, it was part of Rockford County. In 1865, it became part of St. Cloud County and remained so until 1959 when it changed its name to GunsightVillage

By 1845, land had been acquired for a new village called Jacksonville which would become the capital of Florida during the Seminole Wars (1835-1844). When Jacksonville failed to take off as planned, Jensen turned his attention to Stcloud which he renamed after himself – Saint Cloud County! In 1847, construction began on a courthouse which served as the nucleus for future development inStCloud including schools, churches and businesses. In 1860, when Alabama became part of United States (),StCloud became an important military post because it lay smack between Alabama and Georgia on Interstate 95! The post continued serving until 1924 when it closed down due to lack of resources! Today only traces remain from what once constituted an important military installation
