St. Cloud, Florida is a small city in the state of Florida located on the St. Cloud River. The population was 7,024 at the 2010 census and it is the seat of Monroe County. The city was founded in 1824 by Danish immigrants after they arrived in what is now Minnesota. The name "St. Cloud" comes from a location on Lake Michigan called "Frosty Bay". The first European settler in what is now Stcloud was Ole Nielsen who arrived in 1827 and settled on a farm near present-day StCloud. In 1829, Lars Christensen purchased land east of present-day downtown Stcloud from Ole Nielsen for $1,000. By 1840, there were over 20 families living in downtown Stcloud with 4 churches and 5 schoolhouses functioning as schools. In 1851, John Harvey erected a sawmill on the riverbank north of town to provide employment for locals and began to process lumber for shipment to Minneapolis (then called Saint Paul). This mill became known as Harvey's Mill due to its founder’s affiliation with that business activity. By 1861, all but one of the original businesses had closed down because of competition from more aggressive mills across the state or interstate transportation networks which made timber procurement easier and cheaper than ever before. However, Harvey reopened his mill under new management two years later when he took advantage of an offer from railroad mogul James Pemberton to buy his old mill site for $10 per acre (the equivalent value today). That same year saw heavy demand for logs resulting in an increased production rate at Harvey's Mill which helped support local economies throughout much of late 19th century America However by 1870 only 8% of all harvested lumber came from within this small town due largely to expanding markets outside North America where wood products were becoming increasingly popular due to advances like cast iron casting techniques pioneered by Swedish scientist Anders Celsius during that time period Despite these challenges however Archibald Benson managed to keep downtown open until 1896 when he sold it off piecemeal along with most other properties within the city limits during a real estate boom that ensued following World War I . During this time many talented individuals such as Harry Weems (a Coxswain who served aboard HMS Resolution during World War II) established themselves within downtown civic life including serving on various committees responsible for developing infrastructure like streetlights and sewers while also engaging in business ventures such as retailing grocery items at local stores or running their own carriage service between homes and work sites The decline & demolition associated with suburban development starting around this time period led directly to job loss & displacement amongst citizens & businesses alike which ultimately forced considerable youth unemployment rates into double digits beginning around 1960s onward In recent decades significant redevelopment efforts have occurred once again spearheaded by Mayor Lori Swanson who initially returned fire against annexation requests emanating primarily out of political concerns related thereto; consequently vowing never again would her municipality become “just another suburb” she has energetically worked hard since taking office creating an intense focus upon cultural amenities like nightlife/entertainment venues/shopping malls etc., having previously opposed any form whatsoever annexation or even platting out contiguous development adjacent thereto . Notwithstanding some initial resistance emanating mostly from neighborhood groups still vehemently clinging stubbornlyto their traditional rural roots [perhaps understandable given past histories] measures have recently been passed allowing – finally – project developers access hitherto zoned industrial lands adjacent thereto subject only unto public review prior to full planning approval ; thus providing hope for redeveloped portions currently situated approximately 2 miles EAST OF DOWNTOWN ST CLOUD - comprising formerly commercial areas Brewery District Southside Place Mall - being 1 continuing shopping center complexes Stadium Village - being 3 mixed use buildings totaling 75 acres developed specifically FOR NIGHTLIFE / ENTERTAINMENT Purcell Park - containing 6 multiuse buildings totaling 350 acres annexed circa 2017 consisting principally OF INDUSTRIAL LAND

In 1829, President Andrew Jackson moved the U.S. Military Academy from West Point to St Cloud and it became an important national academy in teaching strategy and tactics to American soldiers
