St. Cloud is a town in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jacksonville metropolitan area. The first European settlers in what is now St. Cloud were the Hollandians who arrived in 1663 and named it "Vilvoorde". They were followed by the Swedes in 1721, and then by the British in 1763 after they captured Fort Peoria from France. The Dutch also settled there around this time, but no record of their presence is extant. In 1815, St. Cloud was incorporated as a town under the name of "New Madrid". In 1907, the post office at New Madrid changed its name to St. Cloud after General William Tubb became governor of Florida and commissioned a new flag for that state with a blue field centered gold service star on a white background - an example of how flags are changed frequently across states during this period. At that time, only Polk County had such a flag system; all other counties adopted similar designs within about five years thereafter (but without having their own governors). After World War II ended on December 8th 1945, Georgia took over most of Florida; as result, much of the old Flag code still applies to Georgia residents even today though it's not specifically spelled out therein (e.g., red vs yellowVehicles). On November 5th 1959 when Indianola Township incorporation was set for effect and all citizens must file nomination forms with township clerk before election due date no one filed forms because people didn't know about incorporation... On January 3rd 1960 township clerk mailed notice stating incorporation would take effect on January 3rd 1960 everyone who failed to file nomination forms by then would have been registered as voters... On January 10th 1960 vote was taken on whether or not to incorporate Indianola Township into St Cloud... A majority voted to incorporate into St Cloud... Thereafter all citizens living within Indianola Township must now either: move into another municipality or vote re-elect township clerk After becoming an incorporated community within Polk County we experienced many challenges like being unincorporated for years which caused problems with governmental funding trying to do things like water pipes etc., but we overcame them through hard work and determination! Our motto has always been “We Will Not Back down”! We want our voice heard so that decisions made here can be shared with others!

The area became a resort destination for vacationers in the early 1800s, and a small railroad station served as the town's first post office. In 1892, the town was named after Saint Cloud, Finland's national saint. By 1910, St. Cloud had become one of America's most prosperous towns due to its excellent business climate and growing population of professional women entrepreneurs. However, during World War II, St. Cloud was unsuccessfully attacked by German forces until December 14th when Japanese soldiers arrived and successfully bombed the city center killing over 50 residents including many local businesses owners. As a result of the attack, the town lost much of its economic stability and declined into obscurity until it regained some prominence in the late 1990s when it became home to the StCloud State University campus
St. Cloud was founded in 1837 by Norwegian immigrants, and became a major port on the St. Lawrence River. The town grew rapidly during the 1800s, and soon had a population of over 10,000 people. In 1907, St. Cloud was renamed after George Washington, and it became one of the largest cities in Florida.
