St. Augustine, Florida is home to the oldest continuously inhabited city in the United States and has been known for its firearm-related history since before the Spanish conquest of America in 1565. The area that now makes up St. Augustine was first settled by Native Americans and it wasn't until 1835 that European settlers arrived in what is today St. Augustine. At that time, local militia members defended the town from raiders and pirates who frequented nearby Tortugas Key. firearms were not introduced into this part of Florida until AFTER the American Revolution when General George Washington's army invaded here with intentions of capturing Cuba. Unfortunately for General Washington, his army was routed at Santiago de Cuba and he returned to Virginia without any guns or ammunition! In 1794, Spanish Governor Manuel Pinzón established a military fort on present day Fort Tryon Hill in order to protect Spanish interests on Mobile Bay from British raids. This fort served as a base of operations for later missions such as Mission San Antonio de Padua (1796) & Mission Concepción (1810). It was during this time period that citizens began manufacturing their own firearms which allowed them to defend themselves against Indian attacks and piracy outside of their homes! In 1836, Jacksonville became an independent state after splitting off from Alabama following a referendum vote. In response to this new status quo, several residents in St. Augustine formed the nucleus of what would become known as "The Jacksonville Rifle Club". The club met monthly at an abandoned plantation east of downtown until 1841 when they moved into new quarters on Third Street near State Street where they remain to this day! In 1849, Captain John Cushinge purchased land at present day Calhoun Square developed primarily for farming but also included some buildable land suitable for handgun use within miles of central StAugustine (This square still stands today!). As gun ownership increased throughout Florida due to Seminole Wars occurring between Spain & Britain over control of Tampa Bay Missile Port etc., so too did production capacity within The Jacksonville Rifle Club - resulting in many T-shirts being made specifically related to firearms! When World War II began in 1939, rifle clubs across Flaherty County descended into open warfare with each other over arms control issues raised by President Franklin D Roosevelt's New Deal programs aimed at preventing war between America's two largest allies!Both sides recruited locally sourced personnel while stockpiling ample supplies overseas; however, rifles ultimately failed commercially as both sides used handguns more effectively than rifles: Americans killed more soldiers with handguns than rifles during WWII! Consequently, most firearm-themed t-shirts produced during WWII were either made by local artists or simply recolored NRA jackets/braces! - After WWII ended hostilities between America's two largest allies resulted in surplus arms coming ashore onto Flaherty County soil which led developers interested only in housing development producing t-shirt designs such as "Florida Gunbelt" which depicted typically Floridian landscapes complete with Gunslingers Shooting Out Loud signifying progressivism while neglecting actual gun violence -(1960s thru 1970s): Most firearm-themed t-shirt design emerged during late 1960s through early 1970s when Decatur Democrat Newspaper published annual "T Shirt Contest" featuring photos submitted by students at Southern Illinois University Carbondale where series topic rotated annually including clothing related topics like "Buckle Up!" & "Swingin' With Colt 45s!" That year’s contest featured submissions about “Gunsmoke” tv show character Doc Holliday wearing shirt reading “I Own A Pistol But I'm Not A Criminal”

The first European settlement in St. Augustine was made by Hernando de Soto during his expedition from Mexico City to explore Florida in 1596–97 as part of his campaign against Spanish colonial control over central South America. De Soto's men built three small Fortifications at Calusa Key (now known as Constitution Point), just south of present day downtown St. Augustine, to protect their exploratory mission and prevent hostile Indians from raiding them passage through this newly discovered landmass which they believed was populated by vast numbers of indigenous people whom they thought were living under magical influence! The fortifications served no purpose other than to provide local Native American chiefs with an opportunity to watch Portuguese warships approach Havana Harbour while their fleets sailed past anchor within easy range for attack! On July 12th1509 de Soto’s group consisting including Father Cristobal de la Salle anchored off Constitution Rock on Tampa Bay near where present day US 1 crosses Starkey Creek Bridge on its way into downtown St Petersburg! A short distance upstream from these fortifications lay another small island also named Constitution Rock - now part of downtown’s Freedom Park.. From these two points until 1763 much activity took place on opposite shoresline........... Santa Clara Key 22 miles north (and east)........................................." However, through hard work and determination, the city gradually became self-reliant and prospered under Spanish rule until 1821 when Florida was acquired by United States forces during the Mexican-American War. This event marked a turning point for both St. Augustine and its citizens who worked diligently to make their new home successful. During World War II, Saint Augustine played an instrumental role in supporting Allied troops stationed along the Gulf Coast region as they faced German Shepherds or “Japs” in Okinawa Japan campaign (1939-1945). The city also hosted numerous cultural events related to war efforts throughout 1942-1945 including an Independence Day celebration which featured military personnel from all over the world; a processional honoring Confederate General Robert Ewell; and a benefit show headlined by Bing Crosby which raised money for veterans' benefits local charities.). After World War II ended, Saint Augustine experienced growth due to its key role within newly created Florida state government as well as immigrants coming to fill jobs vacated by departing Floridians; creating what is now known as one of America's most diverse citiesscape across many different socio-economic backgrounds!
