South Miami is a census-designated place (CDP) in Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States. The population was 43,851 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Miami–Dade Metropolitan Statistical Area. The CDP is located on the south side of I-95 just east of Downtown Miami and west of Biscayne Bay. South Miami includes all that lies between Key Biscayne Boulevard to the north and Artesia Boulevard to the south. To its east are areas now annexed by NorthMiami Beach which were originally part of South Miami until they were incorporated into Marlins Park in 2002. According to the 2000 United States Census, there were 38,175 people living in SouthMiami CDP who identified as Black or African American; 10% of its population. There were 21,914 White non-Hispanic individuals (44%); 2% Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander individuals (1%); and 5% two or more races individuals (5%). Of note: Hispanic/Latino residents make up 9% of SouthMiami’s total population while Asian Americans make up 3%. According to 2011 estimates from the US Census Bureau, there are now over 6700 Latinos live within a radius around SouthMiami proper with an estimated 22% growth rate through 2020 according to Census projections. The percentage for Asians has grown even more since then reaching 34%. Asian Americans have been increasingly assimilating into mainstream society and many choose to self identify as such rather than reflect their ethnicity on social media platforms where most Hispanics typically identify as Mexican American or Cuban American. The median income for households within this CDP increased from $42,726 in 2000 to $60,594 in 2010. In 2000 only 25 percent of women aged 35 years or older had a college degree which increased to 45 percent by 2010. This success story can be attributed largely to South Miami’s strong economy with industries such as real estate development and logistics contributing heavily thereto – making it one of Broward County’s fastest growing counties overall during both 2001 and 2010. Despite these successes however crime rates continue to rise especially amongst young adults throughout much of downtown which has led some developers looking towards other high crime areas outside central business districts.

South Miami, Florida is a city located on the eastern coast of Miami-Dade County, Florida. The population was 2,095 at the 2010 census. It is bordered to the north by Biscayne Bay and to the east by Everglades National Park. South Miami is downtown and home to many popular tourist attractions such as The Art Deco District, King's Boulevard Mall, and Coconut Grove. South Miami also contains several large military bases which contribute significantly to its economy. The area that now makes up South Miami was first inhabited by Arawak people who named it "Miamis". In 1565, Juan Ponce de León discovered this area while exploring in search of a new route to Cuba. He called this place la Isla de las Mocasnas because of the abundance of moca (pineapple) trees there. In 1627, Peter Stuyvesant arrived in what is now South Miami from New Netherland and founded Saint Augustine Parish here with some French Huguenots as his colonists. This parish became part of what is now Dade County in 1828. In 1795, Spanish settlers moved into what is now south central South Miami from all over Spain because they were offered land grants forisolating their community from other areas in Dade County that had become Catholic after Spain ceded control of Cuba to America during the Louisiana Purchase in 1803. By 1800, most of these Spaniards had died or been forced out due to violence and disease caused by American Indians who raids nearby plantations looking for slaves until 1794 when Spain finally ceded Florida back to America under the Treaty Of Paris following Napoleon's defeat at Yorktown in 1813. most American Indian attacks ceased around this time but actual white settlement did not begin until after sugar cane farming became possible along the southern shore of Biscayne Bayou through improvements made by Captain John Butler during his tenure as Commandant General (1793-1815) at Fort Worth Naval Station on Southwest Key West Peninsula.. This period also saw heavy immigration from Latin America including famines induced by yellow fever epidemics that swept across Havana during this time; however little sugar cane production occurred due primarily to lack of soil moisture availability given Hurricane Andrew's devastating effects nearsouthwestern county on August 20th 1992 Our Lady OF Lourdes Parish established an altar dedicatedto Our Lady Of The Lake Cottage" - Holy Name Cathedral immediately adjacent To old Fort Lauderdale Int'l Airport off NW corner 3rd Ave & Jasper Ave which served as FIU main stadium before demolition began - still standing today just east of downtown hangar used for charter flights today
