Conners opened his store on State Road 20 near Gulfport which became the nucleus for what later became South Daytona and remains its largest employer to this day with over 1,600 employees including 130 firefighters & emergency medical technicians (EMTs). In 1916 Driggs Bros., grocery stores open up throughout central Florida with centers here in south Daytona and north Kissimmee as well before being pulled out by World War I due togements then returned during peacetime under new ownership; becoming one of the most successful small business operations in south Daytona history which continues today as DRiggs’ Grocery Incorporated within regional shopping mall corporate structure when reopened after renovation/updates starting 2016 On January 1st 1898 - just over two years after arriving from Tennessee - German immigrant Emilie Schroeder set up home on North Main Street in present-day Jacksonville Heights along with her husband Carl Schroeder until 1903 when she left him to marry James Witherspoon in that state; moving their family west thence to Sanford where they resided until 1910 when they moved back east again settling finally at 927 East US Highway 41st Street NE cornering US Highway 27th Avenue NW prior to coming ashore unofficially according to records located herein dating back circa 1912 thru 1922 while residing permanently hereafter on Indian River Bluffs Land grant originally patented 3rd December 1788 by Asa Keyes at $2 per acre granted subject thereto not exceeding any limits herein contained but known generally as the "Keyes Plantation", thenceforward adopting name "South Daytona" or "Keys Landing". South Daytona is a city in Volusia County, Florida, United States. The population was 3,871 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Dade Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent settlers in what is now South Daytona were white men who arrived in 1795 and named their community after Saint Dunstan's Church on Daytona Beach. The town was founded by James Gadsden, one of the founders of Jacksonville, during the 1820s as a small farming community on Sunnyside Plantation near present-day DeLand. By 1825, Gadsden had purchased land east of Sunnyside and renamed it South Daytona. In 1828, he sold additional land to John Hinson and others and formed the First National Bank of South Daytona with five partners. In 1829, the town built its own courthouse and jail which remain extant to this day. In 1830, Gadsden donated 5 acres (20 hectares) of his land for a public square that would be used for shopping and other purposes; today known as Gadsden Plaza. On May 14th 1830, three weeks after his Donation Day gift was accepted by Miami County commissioners under conditions that no money could be taken from it until 7 years later when he died intestate (meaning without any will), Gadsden left behind an amount equal to $5 per acre ($100 million at current value). This putative donation has been cited as one possible cause underlying Miami County'sancockian organization in 1835 when all but two commissioners were appointed by General James Wilkinson rather than elected from local voters like those in other counties across Florida then under Constitutional government control through state legislatures withexecutive power over county officials). The donation has also been mentioned as a potential motive behind early attempts by some residents of South Daytona to secede from Miami County following boundary changes made during Andrew Jackson's administration in 1840 relative to Indian Country west of US Highway 27 between Ormond Beach on Gulf Coast and Sanfordville on Seminole Bayou--the territory currently residing within Polk County-- thereby forming new Volusia County or "DeLand claim". Although there may have been some truth to these rumors at least initially given local hostility towards Coconut Creek natives living east of US 27/Florida Central Road which ran along much of what is now South Dayton Boulevard including much remains today (eastern half or Mile End neighborhood) related largely to yesteryear pineapple plantation operations see also: Massacre at Diamond Head? A map dated 1909 showing boundaries between modern-day Volusia County south of I-4 and Sanfordville shows that both Stonington Township lying north side just before I-4 exit #1 (just before mile marker 190) & Wexford Township lying just past intersection with SR 476 lies within Sanfordville limits while original DeLeon Claim extending easterly into Sanfordville Limits lay within DeLeon Claim boundaries until 1880 when ownership transferred back eastward to Juanita heirs
