South Daytona, Florida is a city in Volusia County, Florida, United States. The population was 23,906 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Storrs metropolitan area. South Daytona is known for its crystal clear waters and white sand beaches. The city was founded in 1887 by J.P. Morgan and David Starr Jordan as a seaside resort town on the east coast of Daytona Beach County. It became an incorporated city on January 15, 1907. In 1969, it merged with neighbouring Daytona Beach to form what is now called "South Daytona". The economy of South Daytona has been based primarily on tourism since it first gained recognition as a vacation spot for retirees in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Manufacturing no longer plays a significant role in the local economy; however there are some small businesses that continue to contribute to the overall glow of this community. The first laser sights were developed in the early 1970s by David Levy with help from his graduate student, Shlomo Sand. While working on a project to develop a pointing device for an American missile system, Levy discovered that Cheyne-Stokes equations could be used to calculate the position of target objects at short range using a reflector and lens. The results showed that point-of-aim Laser ranging technology could be employed in order to improve accuracy of fire at ranges up to about 100 meters. In 1974, United States Patent 3,947,073 was issued to Levy and Sand for the use of point-of-aim lasers as sights on rifles. In 1978, U.S., Japanese and Australian inventors independently filed patents for "Laser Sighting Methods and Apparatus" (US Pat 6,165), which described two types of laser pointers: one with a light beam that is focused onto an object using a lens or mirror; and another type without any light source but instead relies on sound waves generated by the user's voice or other sounds to guide the pointer towards its target. The Laser Sighting Devices Company was founded in 1980 by Sheldon Brownell and Gordon Bell with funding from Raytheon Missile Systems Division under then president John F Kennedy's National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 1980. With permission from Raytheon, Brownell and Bell developed their own version of what would become known as an "acoustic laser sight." This technology uses ultrasonic radiation to heat up metal near the focuser before projecting it out into space through a nozzle onto an object being hunted or guided by sighted personnel; this type of weapon sighting system is still in use today. In 1986, LASER SIGHTING SYSTEMS INC., LLC was formed in response to growing competition from Ruger Incorporated's 5D holographic scopes which allowed users to see three dimensional targets while firing weapons at distances up to 50 yards using only simple aiming techniques. After years of development work LASER SIGHTING SYSTEMS INC., LLC became fully operational in 1990 with the introduction of their revolutionary 5X spotting scope which allowed users visualize three dimensional targets while they fired weapons at long ranges without having any obstruction within 30 degrees OF ANGLE! This new technology quickly gained public attention due its ability provide accurate situational awareness during combat scenarios while also providing firepower equivalent or greater than ever before possible!

South Daytona is a town in Volusia County, Florida, United States. The population was 3,491 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Sanford Combined Statistical Area. The town dates back to 1898 when it was named for Luana Ponce de Leon, Queen of Spain as part of a land grant given to General James Ewing by Spanish King Carlos III. The name change came about because South Daytona had no post office and residents would go to other towns in order to get mail. In 1916, South Daytona became an incorporated city with its own City Council and Mayor. In 1924 the city annexed the unincorporated community of Belle Isle which had been situated on a small island in Lake Monroe since 1892. According to the 1990 U.S Census, there were 2,876 people residing in South Daytona; 1,565 (59%) were White alone and 526 (39%) were Black or African American alone. There were 377 (12%) Native Americans living in South Daytona as well as 7 (0% of the population) who were Asian Pacific Islander and 9 (1% of the population) who were Hispanic or Latino of any race
South Daytona is the most northerly city in Florida and the second most populous. The city was founded on a small island in the Daytona River by English colonists in 1765. It became part of the United States after it was annexed by Florida in 1821.
