Beaumont opened a grocery store on Third Street which became the nucleus of what is now known as Beaumont Square Mall. The first incorporated business in town was a livery stable that operated out of one of the buildings at First National Bank on Second Street from 1912 to 1916. In 1926, Ransom Evers bought land west of downtown and built a new building for the City Hall Annex office complex which became home to many local businesses including four banks, two stores, two restaurants and three movie theaters until it burned down in 1967. Today, only two buildings remain from that period – the old City Hall Annex building (now used as an historical museum) and One Fifth Avenue Jail which stood next to Municipal Park until it was destroyed by fire in 1951 after serving as the county jail for much of that time In 1951, South Daytona annexed Moore County and soon thereafterbecame home to dozens of businesses including eleven banks, six stores, four restaurants and three movie theaters before it also caught on fire from within during an arson spree by teenagers in 1967 which left all but one structure standing Since then things have beenpretty consistent with most major changes taking place outside of government or civic functions like repairs/updates to infrastructure or expansions into adjacent neighborhoods like Westside Village or Northside Mall although some notable exceptions include when Mayor Harry Reid called for annexation of neighboring Monroe County back in 2004 which would have put South Daytona right up against Interstate 95
South Daytona, Florida is a small town in Volusia County, Florida. It is located on the mainland of the state and covers an area of about 12 square miles (30 km2). The population was 3,873 as of the 2000 census. The first people to live in South Daytona were white settlers who arrived in 1821. In 1838, a group of African Americans from Mobile, Alabama set up a trading post here. They named it "Alabamatown." By 1840, most of the black Africans had died from disease or slave-holding conditions in Africa. In 1865, General William Tecumseh Sherman's army passed through Volusia County on their way to march into Georgia. While passing through South Daytona, they burned some homes and businesses. This made local whites very angry and led to several riots throughout south central Florida that year. Later that year Confederate general Jubal Ailey surrendered at Appomattox Court House in Virginia without battle; his troops had fled before battle began. This event turned southcentral Florida into one of the most Union-dominated areas in America during the war years. In 1893, Jethro Gibbs opened a grocery store at 5th Avenue and Atlantic Boulevard in what is now South Daytona Beach. He called it "Gibbs's Grocery" because he bought groceries direct from suppliers rather than going through distribution companies like Sears & Roebuck or J&R Enterprises Ltd., which served as middlemen for goods sold by other grocerschtors.. He was one of only two grocery stores open at this time along with Igloo Ice Cream Parlor on State Road 7 near Apalachicola River Bridge

The history of South Daytona, Florida goes back to the early 1800s. The area that is now South Daytona was part of Spanish Fort, which was founded in 1763 by Major Francisco Xavier de la Vega. In 1821, a group of Englishmen, led by Captain John Smith, discovered and explored the area. They named the area "South Daytona" after their ship "Daytona." The first settlers in South Daytona were white men who came from England. They cleared land and built homes. The first school in South Daytona was opened in 1847. The first store in South Daytona was built in 1850. In 1865, a post office was established at South Dayton Beach. In 1907, a courthouse was built on State Road 10 near present-day US 1/4 mile north of the town center. This courthouse served as court house until 1925 when it became a sheriff's department station. A fire destroyed the courthouse on February 9, 1924. It reopened on March 6th with new construction that included a jail and jailer's office On May 8th of 1912, there were two major earthquakes strike Haiti; one measuring 5 C Richter magnitude and the other measuring 3 C M6 shaking intensity both occurred within minutes of each other off Haitians coastlines about 470 miles SE of Miami On October 12th 1914 an eruption took place at Upton Volcano located about 81 miles NW of Ocala Hurricane Andrew struck Homestead Key on September 14th 1992 killing 42 people (the most killed by any hurricane) while causing $100 million damage Hurricanes Ivan and Wilma struck south central Florida on October 11th 2005 and November 13th 2005 respectively causing total damage amounting to over $130 million
On October 3, 1916, the first organized citrus production in South Daytona was started with a shipment of fruit from Miami. The company name was Wagon Wheel Citrus and it operated out of a small storage lot on Northwest Second Street. The first crop yielded about 10 bushels of oranges per acre. By 1922, the company had bought an additional 2 acres and began to grow trees for fruit production and sales to local merchants. In 1929, Wagon Wheel Citrus merged with Jugular Fruit Company to form Jugular-Wagon Wheel Citrus Corporation. The company produced more than 1 million pounds of fruit per year by 1945 and employed over 100 people at its peak in 1954. In 1955, the corporation relocated its operations to a new building on West Bay Drive in south Daytona Beach. After years of decline, Jugular-Wagon Wheel Citrus Corporation closed its doors in 1973. Today only a few small pieces of fabric remnant from the original factory remain standing as evidence of this historic business enterprise
