South Daytona, Florida is home to the oldest gun laser factory in the United States. The facility was founded in 1984 by two businessmen, Don and Ron DeSantis. Today, the company produces a wide range of gun lasers, including those used by law enforcement and military personnel. South Daytona is a small town in Volusia County, Florida, United States. The population was 2,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Sanford Combined Statistical Area. The town was founded by English settlers in 1854 and named for Admiral Sir George Rodney. It became an incorporated town on November 17, 1907. The townsite extended northeast to include parts of Sebastian and Neptune Beach before being truncated by the Seminole River when that river was diverted to form Lake Kissimmee. The first post office in South Daytona opened in 1855, but it closed within two years due to limited supplies of stamps. The first settler in South Daytona was James Henson who built a cabin on what is now Bennett Road just south of UF Highway 1/SR-1 (later State Road 519). In 1865 another pioneer, John Latham, moved into what is today North Main Street and built a second cabin adjacent to the present day Post Office building which still stands today despite many updates over the years including a fire on October 16th 1984 which destroyed most of the original structure including much of the wood frame building inside) Henson’s Cabin still stands as one of only two remaining structures from that era along with Ponce de Leon Hotel located across US-1A from where it once stood

The name is derived from "Dundee," the Scottish city where they first settled. The town's first school opened in 1894. South Daytona's first post office opened in 1896. The town incorporated as a village on February 14, 1907. On July 1, 1959, South Daytona became a city under the leadership of Mayor John Larkin and City Manager James Fenton with a population of 5,631 residents. On October 9, 1962, Hurricane Andrew struck south of South Daytona and caused extensive damage to homes and businesses throughout the community; $10 million worth of damage was reported within days alone. Andrew also left behind an environmental legacy which has been visited by tourists ever since: Everglades National Park is located adjacent to the townsite and contains remnants of mangroves that were once common along this part of the Florida Keys; Sanford Bayou also borders South Daytona Downtown area
South Daytona was founded in 1892 by J.B. “Beau” French and his brothers, John and Harry. The town grew rapidly because of itsrites: a good location on the Indian River, good soil, and easy access to transportation. In 1916, South Daytona was incorporated as a city. It became an important shipping center for the area and developed into one of the most vibrant communities in Florida.
