In 1907, two brothers named Harry and Sam Lantz bought land east of Indian River Lagoon from some men who had been living there since before they were born (the Lantz brothers had moved there from Jupiter). They set about building a home that would become known as “The Bluffs” after they erected them on high ground overlooking Indian River Lagoon and their adjoining fields. From these beginnings, South Daytona has remained one of its most important communities with more than 50 years worthof tradition and memories attached to it! South Daytona remains an active part of local government today with several committees responsible for day-to-day operations such as zoning, reconstruction/repair efforts in response to Hurricane Irma, and development services such as marketing and economic development.
