Seminole, Florida is a small town in Miami-Dade County, Florida. The population was 4,902 at the 2000 census. Seminole's history dates back to 1835 when the area became part of the Indian Territory after the United States acquisition of Florida from Spain. It was founded by early Native Americans and later annexed by Miami County in 1868. When Miami County was created in 1912, Seminole also became a part of it. In 1960, Seminole Parish merged with other rural areas of Miami-Dade County to form the new county ofMiami-Dade. Today, Seminole is an independent political subdivision located in northeastern Miami-Dade County bordering Broward and Palm Beach Counties on three sides and Fort Lauderdale on one side. The town is named for General James Fenton who fought in Mexican–American War (1846), American Civil War (1865), and World War II (1939). Seminole has a rich history dating back to its earliest days as part of Indian Territory following Spanish colonization of what is now southern Florida in 1835. European exploration and trade first arrived in this area during this time as well as contact with various Native American groups including the Apalachicola Indians, who had their own culture and way of life before being absorbed into the Choctaw Nation around 1795 AD according to historical records. A group led by Captain John Smith reached Tampa Bay on October 15th 1795 while searching for a route across North America that would lead to India or China; they were not successful and returned home without finding anything useful beyond what they called “a great bay” which they did not find until weeks later when they sighted land down south near Stonington Bayou where they believed they could enter through another opening into North America that had been discovered earlier by French traders The area that includes today’s Seminole was first inhabited by Aboriginal people since before Paleo-Indian times according to archaeological finds spanning over 25 years excavated at two sites along US 1 near Sanford/Sarasota Airport – Site X1527TN and Site X1473SU – bothdating back over 10 thousand years ago! On November 25th 1830 Neuman signed a Treaty Of Alliance With The Creek Nation whereby he agreed To Aid them In Their war Against The Spanish Government And Allowed Chiefs To Govern Themselves As They pleased For A Term Of Three Years Which Ended On April 14th 1833 After Which Time They Were Bound To Our Government . Within minutes after signing his treaty Neuman met Chief Osceola at Sunburst Hill whereupon Osceola presented him With A Bow And Arrow To signify His Acceptance Of Our Terms .
