Sebring, Florida is located in Monroe County and it has a population of over 145,000. The city was founded on May 12, 1922 by the Sebring Chamber of Commerce as a small town in western Monroe County. On November 5, 1951, Sebring became an independent city and was designated as the county seat for Monroe County. A new courthouse was built in 1961 and the original courthouse was destroyed by fire on December 9, 2001. In 2003, the City Council passed an ordinance which allowed for the establishment of nightlife districts within Sebring limits.
