In 1951, the opening of Walt Disney World made satellite beach one of its first stops on tour as guests drove down SR 7A from Kissimmee into Orange County to visit Disneyland Resort before continuing their journey south to Orlando. The following year when Walt's death left his son Mickey Mouse headliner at Disneyland Resort complete without an adjacent theme park, Disney managers decided that it would be more profitable to build an amusement park next door called EPCOT which opened in 1966. And so it did - just across the street from Disney's original property - making satellite beach yet another community within easy reach for all those eager to experience Walt's Wonderland once again! With its own movie theater; retail plaza; restaurants; theme parks; golf courses; beaches - as well as being home to many thousands of vacationers every summer since then - Satellite Beach has seen plenty of change since its incorporation into Monroe County on November 12th 1959!
