Sanford, Florida has a rich history with firearms. The city is home to the USS Farragut Museum and the A.R. Martin gunnery school. In 1892, Sanford became the first town in Florida to allow handguns for self-defense. shortly after, the city passed a law that allowed residents to keep firearms in their homes for protection against potential attackers or burglars. In 1899, Sanford voted to become an open-air pistol range and continued this tradition by hosting its own annual rifle match every year until 1934. The match was one of several events that helped promote gun safety in America during the early 20th century. A handgun ban was announced in Sanford on December 1st 1924 following a shooting at a local dancehall known as “The Ghetto” which left three people dead and 21 injured including two police officers who were also shot. After much public outcry, the ban was lifted and handguns were re-instituted into the criminal justice system within six months of it being announced

In 1907, George Fenton opened his store at 333 Market Street in Sanford and began selling guns and ammunition. A year later, he added a gunsmithing section to his store and named it Fenton's Armory. In 1912, Rufus Hennepin opened his store at 401-403 W Orange Blossom Trail in Sanford and began selling firearms as well as ammunition. In 1916, J.C. Penney & Co.'s Sanford branch opened and began selling firearms as well as ammunition. In 1951, The Armoury Corporation (later known as NAPCO) merged with Hennepin's Store and changed its name to The Armoury Corporation (now part of Overstock). That same year, The Armory Corporation bought out NAPCO's interest in the business. From 1951 until 1978, The Armoury Corporation was the sole retailer for handguns in Sanford County.

Sanford is a small town in Polk County, Florida. The population was 2,924 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Lake Buena Vista Metropolitan Statistical Area. Sanford is located on Seminole county line and is bordered by Kissimmee to the south and east, Live Oak to the north, Ocala to the west, and Lake Worth to the northwest. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Sanford has a total area of 23 square miles (71 square kilometers), of which 22 square miles (69 square kilometers) is land and 1/4 mile (0.6 kilometer) (1 kilometer) (0.8 kilometer) (.1 mile) (.3 kilometer) (.7 kilometer)) water.[2] The first permanent settler in Sanford was Captain John Cline who arrived in 1795 from Georgia with his family under Governor James Ketchum's orders as part of a commercial expedition seeking new land for white settlers during what would be known as the American Revolution[3][4]. At that time Seminole County was included within Spanish territory ruled by her brother Sancho de la Vega y Guevara; however, when Spain ceded Florida to America in 1821 she regained control over it including Seminole County[5]. In 1835 an act of Congress created Polk County out of parts of Santa Rosa and Muskogee counties[6] [7] resulting inSeminole County becoming Polk again upon its independence from America on November 3rd, 1912,[8][9] after more than two centuries as part of Spanish Florida Territory.[10][11][12] On February 14th 1861 Sanford became one of five towns formed into Lakeland Township because much of northwestern Seminole County had not yet been developed due to lack of farmland or infrastructure[13], following annexation by Lakeland from Osceola Township on December 12th 1860[14]. On October 15th 1865 General Edwin Ewell founded Fort Union in present day Sanford along Tallahassee River where he intended to establish military posts connected with Confederate forces retreating through Central Florida after hearing reports that Union troops were entering their territory unannounced[15]. The site chosen for Fort Union was near what is now Waterford Road although it would later become known as Ewell Park due its connection with General Ewell's home thereabouts[16],[17]. After being abandoned for several years during Reconstruction due primarily to concerns about possible attacks by black rebels,[18], Fort Union re-opened in 1868 as Fort Brooke but closed again nine years later following Confederate victory at Appomattox Court House over Ulysses S Grant's army[19]. Later renamedFort Brooke Military Reservation No. 8 after Major General James Meeks commandant thereof,[20], it served as a training ground for United States Army officers until 1943 when it reverted back toFort Brooke Military Reservation No Sixty One after World War II ended.[21] Today much property around fort Brooke remains undeveloped although portions have been acquired by various businesses such as Olive Garden which plans extensive development thereon including an arena and shopping mall nearby; Old Town United Methodist Church which contains significant historic resources dating back more than 150 years including original pews from that church's construction date;and many other similar properties across town today while most acreage surrounding fort Brooke has been bought or leased by various developers creating numerous largeresidential complexes dotting the cityscape today while very little remaining evidence remains visible demonstrating how fort Brooke once functioned

The history of firearms clothing is a long and eventful one. There have been many different types and styles of clothing worn with Firearms, both before and after the invention of firearms. Throughout much of human history, Firearms were used for purposes other than just protection from harm. The Egyptians wore actual Shields made from jade or gold to protect their bodies from spears and arrows. The Romans also had effective shields made out of bronze or iron. These shields could be wielded as weapons, protecting the owner and their allies while they fought. In medieval times, there was a type of Clothing called Bodice which was designed to cover the entire body including the arms and legs. This Clothing allowed Gunslingers to go undetected while hunting large game in open areas where Armour would not do any good. In America during the Revolutionary War, General George Washington decided that he would prefer to see less bloodshed on his battlefields if he could avoid it by wearing civilian clothes instead of full armour. He ordered all his officers and men to wear an assortment of clothing including bodices and bonnets (head covering). This change in fashion began what is now known as Gun Decorating History in America!

In the early 1800s, firearms were often used for hunting and protection. Firearms became popular among men because they could be concealed in clothing. In 1868, a rifle was patented that allowed firing without having to remove one's clothing. This firearm called the "Rifleman" became popular and helped revolutionize firearm use by reducing danger from potential shooters. By 1870, firearms had spread beyond the rural areas into urban environments. The popularity of firearms led to an increase in shootings and fatalities due to accidents involving firearms.

Sanford is a city located in the state of Florida. The population was 13,611 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat for Seminole County. Sanford was founded in 1834 by Captain John C. Sanford and his wife Anna Maria. The first post office in Sanford was established in 1835. In 1840, Captain Sanford donated land to build a public square and also contributed money towards building a school and church. The City of Sanford was incorporated on January 2, 1854, by an act of the Florida General Assembly. On December 12, 1896, it became part of the newly created Seminole County after it was detached from Hillsborough County. As one of America's fastest-growing cities, over the years Sanford has seen its populations surge to over 100,000 residents within just five decades – including a recent peak of 132,085 in 2000! The town of Sanford was founded in 1828 by a group of Englishmen who had come overland from Liverpool. The town became an important agricultural center after settlers began to arrive in large numbers and exploit the area's natural resources. The town's growth continued until the late 1800s, when it came under pressure from neighboring towns that developed more rapidly. In 1920, Sanford merged with nearby Kissimmee to form the city of Kissimmee.
