The first post office opened in 1893, and the current one was built in 1911. In 1922, it became part of Lake County and lost its town status until 1959 when it regained it under statehood as part of Amendment 2 to the United States Constitution which granted Seminole County official status on February 26, 1959. The city limits extend into Dixie Springs Township which has a population of over 1,000 people since 2000 according to the 2010 US Census that includes parts of both Seminole County (north) and Hardee County (south). The annexed portion of Dixie Springs Township also has a population over 1,000 people according to that census as well as another 700 or so people living within walking distance of Interstate 10 just south of downtown Sanford proper according to2010 figures from their county government website www dot com/administrative_information/census2010/larimer_county/. There are other incorporated towns located within municipal boundaries including Auburndale (to the east), Buena Vista (to the south), Clearwater Beach (on Tampa Bay), Dunnellon (just outside Tampa City Limits), Fort Myers Beach (in Lee County) and Marathon Beach in Polk County
In Sanford, Florida, the first post office was established in 1892. The city became a county seat in 1907 and was named for General William H. Sanford. Sanford is the largest city in Volusia County and the second-largest in Seminole County.
