Safety Harbor is a town in Duval County, Florida, United States. The population was 9,972 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jacksonville–Ft. Myers Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded in 1887 as a small fishing and hunting camp on the mouth of the Duval River by settlers from Georgia and Alabama who came to escape slavery. In 1898, Safety Harbor became an incorporated municipality with a population of 514. In 1904, it annexed the neighboring communities of Clearwater and Stonington for a total population of 1,811 residents. In 1922, Safety Harbor merged with Port Okeechobee to form the Jacksonville–Port Orchard Combined Statistical Area. The following year Safety Harbor again amalgamated with Clearwater to form safety harbor Villages Incorporated (SHI) with a population of 2,451 people; this merger also resulted in SHI annexing Stonington for a total population of 3,512 residents before both villages separated again in 1984 when STONINGTON left SHI for its own independent incorporation as Safety Harbor Borough (SB). On December 1st 2009Safety Harbor officially changed their name from "Safety Harbour" to "Port Orange"

Safety Harbor, Florida is a small town in Pinellas County, Florida, United States. The population was 997 at the 2010 census. It is part of the St Petersburg-Clearwater Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community was founded in 1905 as a small fishing village on Tampa Bay. A port and wharf were built to serve the small town and its fishermen. By 1920, Safety Harbor had become an important seaport for local products and had attracted large numbers of vacationmakers from nearby Clearwater and Tampa. In 1927, Safety Harbor became a city with its own mayor and council. The city's first Mayor Wessels appointed Orville Hickey as the first police officer in Safety Harbor on November 2, 1927 In 1959, safety concerns over piracy offshore led to the construction of two powerful booms along Tampa Bay to prevent boats from getting too close to shore while fishing or crabbing. The booms remain in use today and are affectionately known as "The Booms" by locals
