Safety Harbor, Florida is a small town in Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States. The population was 19,717 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Miami–Fort Lauderdale–West Palm Beach Combined Statistical Area. The first European to explore Safety Harbor was Captain James Cook on his HMS Endeavour in 1778. He named it "Port Royal," after Prince George's County in England. In 1868 the community was founded by John A. McKay and colleagues from Jacksonville as a citrus planting and processing center for Cuba's sugar crops on the southern tip of Key West Peninsula. By 1925 Safety Harbor had developed into an agricultural town with two cotton mills, a hotel, and several stores and restaurants. In 1978, Safety Harbor became one of fourteen communities within the newly formed Miami metropolitan area when Greater Miami absorbed all of Broward and Palm Beach counties east of Interstate 95 (including Fort Lauderdale). The annexation created problems for Safety Harbour because its main business district lay within the boundaries of both Broward and Palm Beach counties while its population only amounted to about 10% of those in Greater Miami; this problem would be compounded by later annexations to other areas within Greater Miami until 2007 when all but five communities withinMiami-Dade County were annexed into the city proper In 2000 safety harbor lost its seat on Coral Gables City Council to new residents who moved into that seat from nearby MidtownMiami developments known as Liberty Village On November 5th 2006 Mayor Manuel Diaz announced that he would not seek re-election due to health reasons On December 12th 2006 Mayor Diaz announced his retirement effective January 1st 2007 On December 20th2006 Mayor Diaz appointed Raul Castro as Mayor pro tempore

Safety Harbor is a city in Monroe County, Florida, United States. The population was 3,137 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jacksonville metropolitan area. The community was founded in 1892 as a small fishing village on the east coast of Memory Lake by J.D. Payne and his brother-in-law, A.P. Nicholson, both from Massachusetts. The Payne brothers built a cabin and started to sell lobster from their boat on the lake until they decided to build a bigger one with storerooms and another dock for docking vessels larger than their Alma mareboat which could hold up to 24 passengers and carried only four fishermen at a time when it first opened its doors in 1892. In 1915, Safety Harbor became an incorporated city with Limits expansion adding land north of Interstate 95 including what is now known as Neptune's Coastline Boulevard which runs parallel to the harbor frontage on both sides of I-95 just south of US 1A (formerly SR 5). In 1927 Safety Harbor annexed neighboring Neptune's Coastline Boulevard and added Cutler Bayou which forms much of its present border today with North Monroe Beach also annexing Cutler Bayou in 1934 In 1940 during World War II Safety Harbor made headlines when it became home to America's first naval aircraft carrier USS "Halsey" based out of Jacksonville Naval Shipyard after she replaced USS Lexington (CV-16) that had been sunk off Newfoundland during Operation "Torpedo" . She served as Flagship Squadron 11 from 1942-1945 before being decommissioned and scrapped in 1945 . The communities success story does not stop there however! In 1951 annexation by North Monroe Beach completed cutting off most access westward into Cutler Bayou so shrimp boats had to come through Safety Harbor or take more then one trip per day; this caused many businesses closed down making it difficult for people who depended on seafood exports for income which continues even Today!
The city of Miami was founded on July 15, 1896, by Eli Goldwyn and others. The name Miami is derived from the Miamis who inhabited the area at the time of its founding.
