Safety Harbor, Florida is a city in Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States. The population was 16,815 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Miami-Ft. Lauderdale–Hollywood metropolitan area. The city was founded on May 15, 1907 by Rear Admiral John Halsey and Rear Admiral Harry L. Payne as Safety Harbor Naval Station to provide safe haven for American sailors after their shipwreck off Key West during World War I. In 1928, Safety Harbor became an official town with its own government and ambulance service and first grade school opened in 1931. In 1935, the navy moved all naval operations from Key West to nearby Star Island so that safety could be improved for all citizens of the island community which began to form near the harbor mouth on average every two years or so due to increased traffic patterns around Star Island caused by transshipment of goods from South America through the Port of Miami into Cuba and then back across the key into Ft Lauderdale. In 1957, Star Island became an independent municipality with its own government and fire department while Safety Harbor continued as a municipal borough withinMiami-Dade County until 1976 when it became an unincorporated territory within Miami-Dade County again effective January 1st 1977 inclusive. On September 5th 1979 Hurricane Duncans passed over Safety Harbor just before landfall in southeastern FL creating high waves that overwhelmed several streetlights along with power transformers offshore causing widespread destruction throughout much of south St Petersburg/Clearwater Beach including parts of downtown St Petersburg and some homes well inland upwind from where high waves had smashed ontoshore early morning September 6th 1979 generating catastrophic flooding not only in coastal areas but inland also including numerous small towns located between Clearwater Beach & Tampa Bay totaling about 56 square miles particularly within what are now Pinellas Park & Hillsborough counties totals almost 2 million persons were affected making it one of most destructive hurricanes ever recorded both ashore(Hendry) & offshore (Duncan) greatly damaging infrastructure (roads, bridges etc.) many loss/injuries insureds amounting $2 Billion As soon as damage assessments were done it was determined that not only would property values drop significantly immediately adjacent to shoreline but also inland communities would see significant declines especially those located near water’s edge due mainly to loss or destruction of homesites; however these impacts should start leveling off approximately 3 years post storm as insurance premiums increase exponentially over time reflecting increased awareness about potential risks associated withHurricanes both ashore & offshore

Safety Harbor, Florida is a town in Monroe County, Florida, United States. The population was 2,912 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jacksonville metropolitan area. The name "Safety Harbor" comes from the presence of a safe harbor on the mouth of mangrove creek that provided access to Spanish Bay for fishermen and their catch. The town was founded in 1887 by entrepreneur George Washington Hickey and his wife Harriet Beecher Stowe as Fort Hickey on what is now US-101 (Hickey Street). The fort served as a commercial center until 1904 when it was destroyed by a fire. Safety Harbor grew rapidly during World War II as an important naval base serving both the Atlantic and Pacific fleets. After the war, Safety Harbor declined but regained some popularity due to its mild climate, fishing opportunities, and abundance of historical buildings and artifacts. In 1972 safety harbor merged with neighboring Clearwater to form Safety Harbor-Clearwater Incorporated which still controls most aspects of life in Safety Harbour today including marketing & development rights for land adjacent to Clearwater Creek
The city of Tampa, Florida was founded in 1892 by John T. Hennigan and the name came from the Seminole word "Tampa" meaning place of refuge. The area that is now Tampa was first inhabited by Native Americans, who had a village on the Hillsborough River. In 1795, Spanish explorer Juan Ponce de Leon discovered Tampa Bay and named it La Florida because he thought it would be a safe haven for refugees from Spain's war with Mexico. In 1814, during the Seminole Wars, Tampa was burned by Seminoles as part of an effort to drive them out of the area. Afterward, the region became part of US territory under President James K. Polk. In 1827, Congress created US Territorial County of Hillsborough which included what is now Tampa and much of what is now Pinellas County. In 1828, Captain John Moseley established Fort Amherst in what is now downtown Tampa to protect settlers against Indian attacks. In 1840, Governor David Richardson appointed Colonel James Wright as commander of militia forces to protect settlers in Hillsborough County from Indians. Wright built a fort at Presque Isle Harbor to do this and named it Fort Brooke after General William Brooke (1775-1845), an American Revolutionary War hero who fought against British forces at Saratoga Creek and Yorktown Heights in 1781. In 1850, Forbes began exploring possibilities for developing land near Tampa Bay and saw potential for building a canal through present-day Hillsborough County connecting Lake Okeechobee with Spanish Cuba via Tampa Bay. Forbes' company developed large tracts of land around downtown Tampa before its bankruptcy in 1853 closed down most development efforts in the area due to high costs associated with building roads and canals across disputed land parcels). On December 12th 1861, Confederate forces attacked Union troops near Fort Brooke while they were besieging nearby Uniontown; 5 men were killed and 24 wounded including Captain John Moseley who died five days later from his wounds at Fort Brooke on December 15th . On October 15th 1865 United States troops sackedFort Brooke following their victory over Confederate forces at Gaines's Mill; no one was lost inside or outsidefort . A post office called "Tampa" opened on January 16th 1830 at Oneida Street west of Broadway between Eighth Avenue South and West Floridas street among other locations until February 14th 1830 when it moved east along Broadway between West Floridas Street and First Avenue South becoming known as Post Office Square (). On July 1st 1830 postmaster Rufus King moved all offices from Oneida St NW to300 Saginaw St SW (). On November 7th 1830 FP Burrows reopened mail service between San Francisco & Miami starting Monday September 25 th 1830
