In 1935-36 rockledge annexed what are now Plantation Heights neighborhoods east of I-4 and west of US 1/US 27/SR 717 (now SR 190). This annexation included most of Kendall Park (northwest corner), Arlington Heights (southwest corner), Phase II* (east side), Phase III* (central side) and phase IV* developments that are now parts of Garden City Community Services District #1 about one mile northeast of downtown Rockledge on SR 191 northbound near US 27 southbound concurrent with state Route 71 exit 9C

Rockledge is a city in Duval County, Florida, United States. The population was 9,888 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jacksonville metropolitan area and is located on the mainland between Jacksonville andTallahassee. The first European to visit Florida in 1694 was Captain John Smith of Virginia. He named the present-day town after Brigadier General Isaac Rockliffe who had served with him in that expedition under Admiral James Cook. In 1824, Colonel John Wigglesworth erected a log cabin on Dick's Island for himself and his family before he discovered Tallahassee Bay. After Wigglesworth's death in 1827, his wife ran the cabin until their son took over in 1830. In 1835, local lumberman Augustus Peck bought land from Colonel John Clements for $1,000 and began developing it into a town site on what is now Rockledge Road near its entrance today. In 1867–68 three men by the name of Hardin built a gristmill on Chattahoochee Riverbank about four miles east of Rockledge leaving Major Elisha Casey as miller and undertaker until 1888 when he sold his interest to Averill Harriman who founded Gulf Coast Cotton Mills Incorporated which became Harriman Rubber Company Ltd., one of Duval County’s largest employers during World War II; operations continued through 1945 when they were moved to Hollandale Beach. In early 1925 an orange grove was started by Jock Mahoney near where Interstate 95 crosses Clearwater Creek just south of downtown Rockledge As acreage increased around this time citrus crops were planted all along I-95 corridor; truckloads of produce arrived at Stroudsburg Airport for shipment north to markets throughout Southeast Tennessee Some areas bordering Clearwater Creek watershed have seen extensive development including an apartment complex known as Pinecrest Ridge off US-Interstate 295 just east of downtown Rockledge (the original citrus grove remains); construction stopped abruptly in 2006 when developer applied for demolition permit but received no response so plans are still pending . On November 3rd 1926 Mahoney donated 5 acres southeast corner lot between US 95 & State road 497 (now used as parking lot) to Palm Baptist Church authorities established church there that year with 125 members including 10 pastors & nursery school teacher Mrs Agnes Whitehead Mother Superior Roman Catholic convent on property across street
Rockledge was founded in the early 1800s by Major General James Wilkinson and Colonel John Armstrong as a military post on the Indian River. The town grew rapidly during the first half of the 19th century, thanks to its location at the mouth of the Kissimmee River, which led to its nickname "The Gateway to Florida." In 1824, Wilkinson merged Rockledge with nearby Fort Myers to form one city. During World War II, Rockledge was an important naval base and home port for USS Enterprise (CV-6) and USS Guadalcanal (CVE-5). It also hosted airfields for both American and Japanese aircraft.
