Rockledge, Florida is a small town located in Polk County, Florida, United States. It was founded in 1907 by John P. Rockledge and his family. The community was named after John P. Rockledge's father-in-law, Admiral William H. Smyth. The first Post Office in the community opened on February 18, 1907. In 1922, the name of the Post Office was changed to Rockledge when it became a part of the newly created Polk County. In 1947, the population of Rockledge increased to 1,500 residents when it annexed adjacent land from Live Oak Township. In 1968, after being ceded to Lake Worth Township by its original inhabitants as part of a boundary dispute over water ownership rights between the two townships (Live Oak and Polk),rockledge reverted back to its original name - Rockledge Village - once again becoming an incorporated municipality with full powers under local law. In 2013, John Oswald of Oswald Gunsmith moved from his location next door to G&G into what would become his own shop space within Second Chance. The shop specializes exclusively inGunsmithing services for all types of handguns and rifles. Today, Oswald Gunsmith is one of the most popular gun shops in Rockledge with customers coming from all over the county to take advantage of their unique offerings and services.
Rockledge is a small town in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 10,671 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Sanford metropolitan area. The first settlers in what is now Rockledge were three families from Georgia who landed on Pensacola Bay in 1819. They built a small cabin and named it "Rockledge." A post office was established at Rockledge in 1847, and the first store was opened in 1850 by Reuben Henson. The name of the town was changed to its present form on November 12, 1907 when it became one of five towns within the new Lakeland Municipal Airport boundaries. In 1958, Hurricane Andrew struck Florida; damage to homes and businesses throughout the region caused many residents to leave their homes for good. Many people who remained decided to remain close to friends and family while they rebuilt their lives elsewhere. In 1990s-2000s, much redevelopment took place with an increase in business activity due to major events such as hurricanes Irma and Maria which destroyed several homes along with businesses in nearby Kissimmee Lakeshawn Park which would have had a significant impact on that community as well as other Port Orange areas around Tampa Bay perimeter where housing developments were taking place at that time including Clearwater Beach but no development happened until after Hurricane Ivan hit Florida causing some serious destruction there so Rockledge never regained its heyday of business activity until recent years! Today Rockledge has seen some growth due mainly to annexation by neighboring Sanford since 2000; however most jobs are located either outside or inside of Sanford proper as businesses move closer or closer to services provided by local government like Schools/Daycare/Libraries etc., making this community more inclusive than ever before!
