Rockledge, Florida is a small town in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,813 at the 2010 census. It is located on the north shore of Lake Okeechobee. The town was founded by German immigrants in 1887. The name "Rockledge" comes from a white oak tree that stood near the original settler's farmstead. In 1924, Rockledge incorporated as a village and adopted its current name. BB guns were first made in Rockledge in the 1920s by Dragoons Firearms Company Ltd., which operated out of two buildings on geographic land that had been vacated by other businesses nearby. The company produced high-quality BB guns for many years before it folded in 1984. Today there are numerous BB gun dealers operating throughout Rockledge and neighboring communities including Apopka, Dunnellon, Hialeah Gardens and Miami Lakes-DadeCounty Line Road). Smith's army attacked and captured Rockledge from the Seminoles; this event is generally considered to be the beginning of town's growth. A post office was established in 1847 and remained in operation until 1959. In 1881, a group of businessmen formed the Miami Electric Railway (MEMR) to build an electric line through town which became operational in 1886. The MEMR became extinct in 1941 but its tracks are still used by Amtrak as part of their Florida service between Miami-Dade County and Daytona Beach/Orlando International Airport.. In 1957, construction began on what would become known as "The mall." At that time it was one of only a few comprehensive shopping malls completed across America at that time. The mall developed over time into an important center for retail activity within central Orlando and remains an important destination today for shoppers seeking bargains on clothing, accessories, home goods, food services, etc.. "Rockledge" has been mentioned frequently among UHFSTL's top ten unique place names since its inception as a Top Ten list back in 2006!

As part of this process, Rockledge's western boundary changed from US 11th Street to I-95
