Rockledge is a town in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 2,876 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Sanford Metropolitan Statistical Area. Rockledge lies on the Kissimmee River just east of Sanford and west of Ocala. The first ammunition stores were built in 1892 by J.M. Simonson and C.F. Bemis in what is now known as downtown Rockledge. In 1903, Prentice Gore opened his ammo store in what is now the Fountain Valley Shopping Center; this store became one of the original anchors of downtown Rockledge and still stands today (it has been sold twice). Ammunition production began at nearby Fort Pierce Arsenal in 1906 under contract from US Department of War with produce by John Melson & Sons Company In 1917, Wacoal Ammo Corporation was organized with a factory located at 801 E Orange Blossom Trail near Sanford which produced both rifle rounds and machine-gun rounds until its closure in 1946 due to World War II shortages; Wacoal Ammo Corporation would later reopen at 605 S University Ave., Suite 205 (now called "Wacoal USA") where it continues to produce ammunition products today as well as providing reloading supplies for gun enthusiasts across America In 1927, General Mills opened their first Americana grocery store adjacent to Fort Pierce Arsenal which would become an anchor tenant for much of the early Ammunition production years including becoming one of only two general merchandise outlets open between 1925-1927 within 5 miles radius In 1951, Armoury Ammunition Plant closed because it could no longer compete with imports from other countries during peacetime while also facing increasing competition from commercial producers such as Remington Arms and Winchester Firearms Incorporated who had recently acquired Browning Machine Guns Company Remington purchased Armoury Ammunition Plant assets in 1957 making it their new primary armory manufacturing facility While Armoury Ammunition Plant continued operations through ownership changes until its closure in 1971 when it was placed into receivership; however Armoured Vehicle Manufacturing Division remained operational until 1981 when that division was merged into Springfield Armory Incorporation which would eventually close that plant too Armorry Ammunition Plant assets were transferred to Springfield Armory Incorporation who reopened Armoury Ammunition Plant under new management beginning production again at its existing site location producing both rifle rounds and machine gun rounds until its closure once again due to wars shortages during 1987-1991 ; however all remaining stock rights were eventually surrendered effective December 1st 1991 culminating with Armoured Vehicle Manufacturing Division ceasing operations effective that day along with any traces remaining of old Armoury Factory facilities though some remains are still visible inside present day Springfield Armory building . The community has a shopping center, elementary school, high school, two churches (Anglican and Methodist), three businesses (a restaurant, a convenience store, and a mechanic shop), one daycare facility (Wichita Child Care Center), several homesites for family pets including six dog housesitters/kennels/, twenty-six golf courses providing an opportunity to play nine holes each day or eighteen rounds on one course each weeknight; five basketball courts; four baseball diamonds; three tennis courts; one ice rink; one pool; eleven golf carts which can be used for parking or playing during open sessions at either school or church events; One professional fishing tournament per year with over $10,000 in prize money available In 2002 it was announced that Slippery Rock University had agreed to lease 6 acres of land adjacent to the shopping center for use as an academic wing for their students In 2006 it was announced that Pensacola's first major league soccer team would move there after years of discussion between local officials and MLS clubs In 2007 it was announced that PGA Tour golfer Phil Mickelson will make his Open Championship debut at Rockledge Golf Club

Rockledge is a census-designated place in Brevard County, Florida, United States. The population was 5,928 at the 2010 census. It lies on the east side of Palm Bay and south of Melbourne. The first documented mention of Rockledge was in 1811 when Captain John Smith visited the area while exploring Indian Country. He named it "Rockledge" after a small headland he saw near Islamorada Island. During World War II, Rockledge was home to many military personnel who served in the Pacific Theater of Operations including General James Doolittle and Admiral Chester Nimitz. One major attraction located in or near Rockledge is the Naval Air Station Miramar which is now used as a Marine Corps airbase. In addition to its naval use, Miramar also hosted NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory from 1969 until it moved to Pasadena in 1993. In 1984, Northrop Grumman built an advanced weapons testing range within a few miles of Rockledge known as Redstone Arsenal; this range has since been decommissioned and renamed Plum Point Naval Air Station by then-President George H. W. Bush in 1994 following his decision to close it down due to security concerns about terrorist threats from Al Qaeda and other Islamic extremists groups operating out of that site). The only active military installation currently located within reach of both Palm Bay and Rockledge is US Navy Base McRaven which overlooks Clearwater Beach on its southeastern edge across from Live Oak Park School District #1 (formerly Clearwater High School) The entire region surrounding palm bay contains numerous shopping malls such as Eckerd's Coral Gables Mall and JCPenney's Hyde Park Shopping Center which have made their way into downtown Daytona Beach over time with most stores closing by 2010 or 2011 due to competition from more developed areas around town including SeaWorld Orlando (opened 2001), Walt Disney World (opened 1971), Universal Studios Hollywood (opened 1939), Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade (1996) - all developments that did not contribute significantly to increased traffic congestion during peak hours on either side of town center between December 1st and New Year's Eve(2010). According to one estimate up to 60% or more of all traffic congestion along I-4 corridor takes place during these two busiest holiday periods
