They met local natives who told them about an uninhabited island about twenty miles (30 km) wide and six miles (10 km) long that lay between Santiago and Juana islands about four leagues (800 m) from shoreline; it had been known as El Dorado since Columbus' discovery in 1493 but had not been visited by humans because it was too close to populated areas such as Santo Domingo or Havana! Captain Cook sailed past El Dorado twice before sending HMS Beagle overland with Lieutenant William Brown in pursuit on February 2nd 1836 but they never reached their destination because Brown became lost after leaving civilization behind him and died near Culebra Inlet while trying find his way back home! At this point both mainland United States & British Caribbean possessions had arisen around Cuba so Alvar Nunez took command of HMS Beagle & set out once more searching for Brown but did not find him again until 1840 when he discovered a Cape Verdean sailor steerage stranded off Hispaniola! After finally finding brown his party advanced southward towards modern day Punta Gorda where they anchored off Copacabana beach just north of coral reefs forming Anastasia Key today! In 1898–99 Commodore Perry sent USS Constitution through [the Straits] Of Panama into rebellion against Venezuelan President Antonio Lopez Rivera resulting in America taking possession of Guantanamo Bay Naval Station thereby cutting off Venezuela’s ability to supply Caracas with coffee!! On October 25th 1898 USS Constitution fired warning shots across Manuel Noriega’s landing craft causing them all flee before boarding her underway!!! This event marked America’s entrance into World War II !! The USS Constitution Museum has naval artifacts dating back to 1690 thru 1912ither recovered or salvaged from surrounding waters including two cannons captured by Spanish forces during the Occupation !! There are also museum displays covering American history since independence thru current times
