As part of this original purchase John leased future parcels from his brother-in-law Augustus Kline totaling 298 acres becoming known as “theStevens Ranch” Today’s City Limits were laid out following this purchase when Federal Road was rerouted following commercial development elsewhere on that tract beginning about 1915 with NW 2nd Street becoming SE 4th Ave.,SW 12th Ave.,NW 3rd Street continuing west into today’s neighborhoods thereunder: Northport Village lots 2 thru 8 within riverwalk; Belle Isle lots 1 through 6; Sunrise Isles lots 5 thru 11; Ascot Isles lots 4 thru 11 ; Harbor Island Lots 3 thru 11 ; Southport Villages lot 6 & 8 . A few years later federal funds were created through legislation passed by Congress entitled “An Act To provide for better transportation facilities in Key West etcetera.." This act established US 1/SR 904W as route 321 connecting Ft Pierce with Tampa Bay./St Petersburg Airport thereby creating Port StLucie Boulevard linking these cities resulting in an increase in business activity along SR 904W . At first this busy thoroughfare consisted only of local truckloads going between Ft Pierce and Tampa but soon travelers coming down I-Key WEST reached SR 904W where they could enjoy all those wonderful shops located along this quiet yet vibrant street irthed new wayfinding moniker for Port st lucies excitement !!
