Gun hammers were first invented in the early 1800s. At that time, they were mainly used to keep guns cocked and locked. They were also used as tools forsmithing firearms. In the late 1800s, gun hammers started becoming more popular due to their ability to cause serious damage to firearms. As hammers became more common, they began being produced in a variety of materials, including metal and plastic. Today, gun hammer production is still mostly done with metal materials. One of the most famous firearm hammers is the Glock hammer. This hammer was designed by Glock Inc. and is known for its durable construction and heavy duty use. It has been used on many high-profile handgun shootings including those at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut in December 2012 and at Monterrey streetFair in Texas on May 14, 2013.
Gun hammers are devices used to beat or cock a firearm, often with the use of a hand crank. The hammers vary in size and shape, but all share one common goal: to cause the breechface of the gun to open. Gun hammering is also done with fingers, as opposed to an object such as a mallet that would be used for traditional rifle hammering. Hammering has been used by humans for centuries, and it was first developed into what we now know as gun hammering by improving on an existing hunting tool called a cocked shot caller. A cocked shot caller consisted of two pieces: the headstock and the body. The headstock was made from hardwood or some other durable material and hada hole bored through it so that a ballpoint pen could be inserted into the holder and pulled back until it came off the end of the cue stick ( Figure 1 ). To cock the shot caller, you place your palm against either end of the headstock and squeeze while pressing down on either side of the ballpoint pen plunger ( Figure 2 ). The first gun hammer in Port St. Lucie was a Thompson-Hilbert Revolver that was used by the Coast Guard between 1911 and 1917. It had a hammer that could be rotated to cock the weapon and a firing pin that would hit the cartridge case before it could be ejected.

The town was founded by Captains John Andros and Sebastian Vizcaino as Palm Harbor on November 3, 1892,[3] shortly after Florida gained statehood and following a referendum vote that authorized its annexation into Miami-Dade County.[4][5] In 1905, Jacksonville developer millionaire Andrew Jackson Cope purchased 2 million acres (8 km2) of land off Palm Beach County beach for $1 million dollars[6][7][8] which he planned to develop into a modern port city with nightlife and white sand beaches catering to American cruise passengers coming from Key West, Cuba and other Caribbean ports. He named his new city after himself – Port StLucie – but never built anything there because he died before completing his project. In 1912 Cope's widow sold her interest in their development to brothers John Denton Goodloe III (1868-1942) and Harry Goodloe (1871-1945). Their father had been killed when his yacht sank during a voyage from Havana to Key West two years earlier while trying to cross TCP Lighthouse Reef near Jupiter Inlet; all 118 passengers were lost including six members of the goodloe family Only one building from this period remains standing: Goodloe House which stands at 302 Estero Ave., just east of US 1 across from where today's Sunrise Highway meets US 1/Boca Raton Boulevard
