During World War II, many American soldiers served in Port St. Lucie as Marines or Navy sailors during World War II Naval Reserve Training Station (NRTS), which functioned as an aviation refueling station for Marine Aircraft Group 11 and Naval Air Squadron V-22 sense aircraft flying from NAS Miramar south to NAS Key Largo for training naval aviators and torpedo bombers operated by Fleet Air Arm squadrons based out of Jacksonville during that conflict). In 1948, when Partition occurred between India and Pakistan following British withdrawal from India, Indian citizens living in South Florida began arriving to take advantage of natural gas resources available near Miami while other Indians took up residence elsewhere in South America or Asia. As a result of this influx of new residents into town—many with no experience with governing a smalltown—Port St Lucie experienced rapid growth beginning in earnest during the early 1950s as businesses started opening up and people got their bearings around what had become their home base."

Port St. Lucie, Florida is a city in Martin County, Florida, United States. The population was 21,052 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jacksonville–Miami metropolitan area. It is on the Indian River Estuary and its name comes from Spanish meaning "the place where the sea meets the land." In 1868, American businessman John Smeaton organized a group of businessmen to purchase 640 acres (2 km2) of land along Miami's southern border in what is now Port St. Lucie. On July 5th, 1868 they met with Stephen Biddle and agreed to build a wharf and dock on which they named it St.Lucie after Robert Mathias Strickland (1796-1864), one of their investors in this transaction. The first post office was established at St. Lucie on January 8th, 1870 under the name "Stlucie". In 1872 Captain Henson built his wharf next to town and began shipping salt cod from Key West for local merchants who then sold it back to Captain Henson when exports ceased during World War I due to prohibitionism by America’s enemies Germany and Austria-Hungary). The man who developed Port St lucie into an important seaport was Isaac Brockway (1844-1925). He started out as a sailor but became interested in sugarcane farming after he discovered that sugar could be grown without irrigation using only rainfall water derived from nearby mountainsides. After some struggles he founded Broward County Sugar Company (BCS) in 1902 becoming one of South Florida’s most successful entrepreneurs – his company produced more than 2 million bushels of cane per year until his death in 1925. Brockway also donated land for Memorial Park near downtown Port st lucie which still functions as an open air park today
In 1827, the first permanent European settlement in Florida was founded on the Indian Key Peninsula by Capt. John St. Lucie and his friend, Colonel David Ross. The key's strategic location made it a natural port for shipping goods to the mainland United States, and early settlers developed a thriving trade with Native American tribes and the Spanish Empire. In 1838, after Seminole War clashes between British colonists and Seminoles turned deadly, Spain ceded Florida to America as part of the Treaty of Moultrie Creek. At this time, Port St.Lucie became one of several Spanish settlements in what is now Miami-Dade County. The town quickly grew into a bustling commercial center with warehouses, mills, churches and homes being constructed on or near its wharf. Port St.Lucie thrived during World War II as an important military base transporting troops and supplies to various points in Southeast Asia and Europe. After the war ended in 1945, many businesses closed down but Port St Lucie continued to grow as a non-profit community services organization until its sale to AIG in 2001.
