Port Orange, Florida is a town in Lee County, Florida, United States. The population was 10,569 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–St Petersburg metropolitan area. The first settlers in what is now Port Orange were white men from Georgia who arrived during the Seminole Wars. They named their new town after General William Troup's military unit known as "The Old Fort" on January 1, 1824. The first post office was established in July 1825 and was called "Troupville". In 1827, a road connecting Tampa and Jacksonville was built through what is now Port Orange. This road led to increased trade between the two cities and made it easier for people to get around. By 1830, Port orange had become a very prosperous town with over 100 businesses including shops, harnessesmiths and wagonmakers. On October 25, 1831, General Andrew Jackson became President of the United States and announced that all slaves in America must be emancipated by December 5th or face forcefully emancipation. Many worried that this would lead to another slave rebellion like those which occurred in Haiti and Africa during his term as president. In response to this issue, Governor Milton Sargent ordered all slaveholders in Lee County to free their slaves by December 1st or risk legal action being taken against them by state officials. As a result of General Jackson's proclamation%, many African Americans who were not owners of property decided to move into towns near river crossings so they could avoid being caught up in the manumission process mandated by government decree. Some of these black migration events are documented through oral history interviews conducted with descendants today (such as Reginald Hawkins). Many white men also decided to leave their homes for unknown reasons; some may have been lured away by offers of land or money settlements made available for them by friends or family members living among the enslaved Africans along route travel northward from Florida’s coastal areas bordering Alabama/Georgia/Mississippi Territory (now parts of Texas). Others may have simply chosen freedom over returning home under difficult social conditions caused by economic sanctions levied against Cuba following its failed insurrection against Spanish rule in1868-1911."

Port Orange, Florida is a town in Brevard County, Florida, United States. The population was 21,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Sanford Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first Europeans to visit Port Orange were Spanish and Portuguese traders and explorers who arrived in 1565 by shipwreck on an isolated island near what is now Daytona Beach. A small community began to form around this wreck and its indigenous people, the Timucua Indians. In 1795, Captain James Cook sailed past Port Orange Harbour on his way from Australia to North America. He noted that "the bay where they [the Timucua] live is most flourishing; here there are several small towns built upon shoals of coral." In 1823, Englishman John Ritchie founded a salt industry at Fort Walton Beach on nearby mainland Brevard County. By 1830, Ritchie had developed a large shipping canal linking the Canaveral Peninsula with Tampa Bay through which goods could be shipped directly to Mobile Bay for export. This allowed for two major windmills and many other businesses to flourish in what would become known as "Ritchie's Harbor". In 1831, Commodore William Dormer vested Ritchie with 1 million acres (500 km2) of Indian Territory (now Florida) so that he could develop it into a commercial center for the region. During World War II the town was home to more than 10% of all American production of munitions exported abroad by US allies such as Great Britain and Canada; 5% of all US employment was in related industries during that time period. The town's nickname "Bombay" comes from this coincidence. In 1965 when Coral Gables became an independent city after being annexed by Miami-Dade County, much effort went into developing areas including downtown Port Orange which then reverted back to its historic name of 'Port Orange'. Today downtown has numerous shops and restaurants along with public transportation options like buses or trains that run throughout the day long or overnight
On October 26, 1892, a group of investors founded the Port Orange Brewing Company. The company was located on what is now Indian Key Boulevard in Port Orange. In 1903, the company purchased land at the mouth of Lake Wales Creek and began to produce beer. In 1912, they built a brewery and restaurant on what is now US 1 in Port Orange. The company was successful and soon opened breweries all over Florida. They were also one of the first companies to export beer outside of Florida.
