In the early 1900s, Port Orange was a small town in southern Florida. It was known for its citrus crops and its shipbuilding industry. However, by the 1920s, Port Orange had become an important center for optical equipment manufacturing. This growth was due to two factors: the city's location on a natural shipping route between Miami and Tampa, and the availability of skilled labor in the optical industry. One of the early manufacturers of optical equipment in Port Orange was J.B. Lummis Company. Lummis products were well-known for their quality and durability. In addition to products from Lummis, other prominent manufacturers during this time include Stevens & Sons Inc., American Optical Company, and Wexler Manufacturing Corporation. During World War II,Port orange's role as an important center for optical equipment manufacturing changed again. The city became a focus on producing munitions production facilities due to its strategic location within striking distance of numerous military sites. As a result, many of Port orange's leading manufacturers shifted their operations to elsewhere during wartime - including Stevens & Sons Inc., American Optical Company, Wexler Manufacturing Corporation - but Lummis continued to produce high-quality products until his death in 1957."

Port Orange, Florida is a city in Volusia County, Florida, United States. The population was 25,922 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Sanford Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent settler in Port Orange was Nicholas Jenkins in 1824. In 1830, John H. Moody established what became known as the "Moody House" on State Road 205 near present-day Sunrise Boulevard and Route 1A. A post office called Port Orange was established in 1833, and remained in operation until 1907. At that time it was within Brevard County; however, it was transferred to Volusia County whenBrevard County became a state of its own on March 29, 1907. In 1840 Jacksonville built a wharf on the now Beaches Avenue estuary for shipping goods from Tampa Bay bound forrimonkeysville (now Jacksonville). By 1860 there were over 100 residents living in downtown Port Orange and more than 200 businesses including warehouses and stores along Beaches Avenue. The construction of an electric streetcar line begins operations on December 7th 1906 with horse drawn cars running between downtown and Tantalus Park where passengers could buy refreshments or use the beach facilities

Port Orange, Florida is a small town in Broward County, Florida. The population was 1,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Miami-Dade metropolitan area. The town began as a trading post on the present-day Intracoastal Waterway and became an important center for citrus production during the early 19th century. In 1857, George Rogers Clark visited Port Orange and named it after General James K. Polk because he thought its strategic location would make it an ideal base from which to explore new areas in South America. During World War II, Port Orange played an important role as one of several military airfields in southern Cuba used by American forces. The town was also home to US Army Air Forces Base Mabelite until its closure in 1948. After the war, Port Orange experienced a period of rapid growth due to its connection with the citrus industry and its position as an international shipping port on both the Atlantic and Caribbean oceans. By 1990, however, Port Orange's economy had begun to decline due to changes in global trade patterns and other factors such as increased competition from other towns within Broward County. Today, Port Orange remains a small community with declining economic status that has been struggling to remain solvent since the late 1990s. However, there are some tentative plans for redevelopment that could bring about positive change for the town – including creating jobs and increasing access to education and health care services.
The town of Port Orange was founded in 1855 by John S. Pemberton and his family. The area that is now Port Orange was first inhabited by the Timucua Indians, who were displaced after a Spanish expedition discovered Florida in 1565. The Pembertons, who were English settlers, began farming the land in 1855. In 1860, they built a store and post office in the town. The first mayor of Port Orange was J.H. Hickey. In 1865, the town became part of the newly formed Seminole County, which included all of present-day Hillsborough County and parts of Brevard County. The county seat was moved from Sanford to Port Orange in 1871.
