The city's economic history began with its connection to agriculture which continues today with many businesses in the agricultural industry such as citrus production and processing; trucking and logistics services; real estate; banking; insurance; restaurant/cafeteria/bar/catering operations; manufacturing (steel construction); retail trade (carpeting, textiles); health care services (medical treatment); government service contracting and veteran housing development through local military veterans organizations such as USO Jacksonville-Port Orange PortOrange has seen several waves of immigrants over its history including Italians who founded two churches in 1908- one for Catholics and one for Protestants- followed by Poles who settled from Nowy Dwór Gdański between 1922-1926 Portugese were brought here during World War II to work in defense industries such as aircraft manufacturing Spanish also came during this time but mostly worked aboard naval vessels until afterwards they all left for other parts of Latin America Mexican workers were brought over specifically to help build bridges across Lake Monroe Chinese residents were also brought over early on but most left after 1942 when Japanese forces invaded California . Today there are no nativeborn residents living within the boundaries of the city limits . The only permanent resident group currently residing within City Limits are those working for local businesses that fall within their job description

In 1821, a group of Englishmen founded Fort Walton Beach on what became Port Orange before leaving for good in 1824. In 1829, General James Kenedy established Seminole Indian Removal Station in present day Sanford which served as headquarters for the military during Seminole Wars against Native Americans. The station was abandoned in 1840 after most of its occupants had been removed to Indian Territory by Ulysses S Grant’s forces during the Mexican–American War. In 1865, Aventura Plantation was founded on what is now Northwest Fourth Street by Captain Edward Gadsden and his family; it would become one of America's leading cotton plantations with over 350 slaves working there by 1870. In 1871, Aventura merged with nearby Winter Garden and renamed itself Miami Beach; it would be annexed by Miami city limits in 1969 following an election campaign promise from then-mayor Manuel López Mateos to annex all beaches within city boundaries if he won office. Port Orange's economy changed radically after World War II when millions of soldiers came through the area looking for work and port facilities were developed extensively throughout downtown areas such as HarbourFront Centre and West Palm Beach neighbourhoods such as Coral Gables and Building Bldg., becoming some of North America’s largest post-war housing developments with thousands of single family homes being erected around early 1950s (Wright Piquette & Partners Architects Inc.). However, many residents leftPORT ORANGE FOR THE MEXICO WEST IN THE MIDDLE OF THE 20th CENTURY AND THEY CONTINUED TO INCREASE THEIR NUMBER THROUGHOUT THIS TIME BUT DIDN'T SEE MUCH CHANGE IN THE ECONOMY AFTER BRAZIL WON THE WAR AGAINST THEM IN 1948
