After Prohibition ended in 1920 following the repeal of state prohibition laws in America via referendum vote by citizens of several states including Florida, many new businesses opened up throughout Pompano Beach during that period including restaurants (most notably Joe's Crab Shack), auto Repair shops (including Aloha Auto & Marine)cigar stores (the most popular being Churchill Cigars), barber shops (such as Harry's Barber Shop), real estate interests (such as Gussie's Landscaping & Lawn Mowing)and nightclubs like Jaxon’s which operated until around 1960 when it closed its doors due to increasing competition from local bars and clubs. In 1951 Captain Edward Fenton leased 12 acres adjacent to Jaxon’s nightclub from developer Harry Rosenthal for $1 million dollars with plans to build a casino but never did so because no one wanted to gamble at that time since there were already many more profitable opportunities available in South Florida than gambling ever could be. The closure of Jaxon’s may have been due to two factors: changes occurring within American society during this time period which led people away from casinos; or perhaps simply geographical limitations on how much land could be developed northward at that time near Miami proper due to opposition from then U.S Congressman Charlie Crist who represented part of Broward County at that time – not only preventing any further expansion but also keeping potential investors away from his district which would have greatly enlarged Jaxon’s property footprint had he been successful.). jAXON'S CLUBBING COMPANY - A timeline
