Pompano Beach is a small town in Broward County, Florida. It is located on the southern coast of Miami-Dade County and has a population of about 66,000 people. The town was founded in 1947 by brothers Neil and Jack Hampden. In 1947, brothers Neil and Jack Hampden founded Pompano Beach based on their discoveries that there were vast amounts of oil reserves offshore at the time. They quickly became known as the "fathers" of Pompano Beach because they dedicated so much time and effort to making it a successful community. In 1951, they built their first home on Palm Island which still stands today as one of Pompano's most popular tourist spots. They also helped to develop the towns' infrastructure including its water supply and electric grid—all before becoming complacent about how well things were going during their own retirements in 1978 and 1992 respectively! In 1893, Miami Lighthouse No 4 (renamed Fort Lauderdale Lighthouse No 2) was built at North Key Biscayne Boulevard and Coral Gables Boulevard; it served as a navigational aid for shipping entering or leaving Miami Harbor. On May 10th 1898 US President McKinley were visiting South Florida when he visited both lighthouse batteries and made an address from one of them at Key Biscayne Blvd & 14th Ave Nautical Highway at which time US Vice President Arthur J Reischauer joined him onstage and took his picture with McKinley while standing just insideFort Lauderdale Light House c5mtrs away from shore line
Pompano Beach is a long, sandy beach that stretches for about 10 miles. The beach gets its name from the Indian Chief Pompano and his warriors who landed here in 1818 to fight against Spanish colonists. In 1898, during the Spanish-American War, American forces burned down the old Fort Pickens on Pompano Beach.
