The history of Pompano Beach can be traced back to 1898 when two brothers named Harry and John Seibert bought 640 acres (250 hectares) of land in what is now Pompano Beach from the Atalanta family for $2,000 (). They built a small cabin on the property and named it "Pompano". In 1902, Harry Seibert sold his share in the business to his brother John who continued to run it as a partnership with his nephews Julius and Rudolph Wecht. In 1911, Harry Seibert died and all three men became sole owners of Pompano Beach. In 1935, during World War II, local businessman Adolph Lutz donated 1,500 square yards (120 m²) of beachfront property east of Third Street to make way for an airfield used by Army Air Forces training pilots in preparation for their wartime missions over Cuba. The airfield was known as "Lutz Field" until 1957 when it was redesignated as "Pompano Beach Army Air Base". From 1941 until 1945, Pompanos served as a major staging area for Allied forces fighting in European Theater during World War II; some 3 million people visited Pompano while there. After hostilities ended in 1945, many soldiers returned home from Europe but were not able to find homes they could afford so they decided to stay behind and build houses on undeveloped beach lots which lay along Third Street between First Avenue West and Second Avenue East. The first house built here was Number 2140 Third Street which had been rented by Adolph Lutz from Hapgood & Sons grocery store manager George Wirthman before he donated it to the city OFFPB in 1948. The house still stands today next door to # 2150 Third Street which belonged to Druella Gatz postmaster Nellie Beasley before she donated it to Mrs. Clausen after her death in 1978; Number 2146Third Street also remains standing today next door To # 2214ThirdStreet both belonging to my great grand parents Charles Gatz Sr., Emma Gatz & Henry Weinberg who founded our company Gatz Bros., Incorporated 1881年。 After World War II ended most families moved back into their original beach Lots but some like Mr Weinberg’s kept living on Third Street while others relocated inland near Palm City where they developed some very nice properties including:# 2208ThirdStreet now belongs To The Broyles School District
