The Plantation community in Florida was established in the early 1800s as a result of the land acquisition and sale of plantations in that state. The area now known as Plantation was first developed by Dutch settlers in the late 17th century, and became one of the most important slave-owning counties in the United States. By 1820, however, plantation production had declined due to technological advances and new markets for goods produced elsewhere. A series of purchases by English investors led to a revival of production, which continued until after World War II.
Plantation was a large and important area in early Florida. The area now known as Plantation was first inhabited by the Timucua people, who were descendants of the Achee people. In 1565, Spanish explorer Hernando de Soto discovered what is now Plantation on the east coast of Florida. Afterward, Spanish colonists began to settle in this area, and by 1693, Plantation had become an important location on the Florida peninsula. The arrival of English settlers in 1763 changed all that. England wanted to take over what they saw as Spain's proprietary territory in North America. As a result, English colonists moved into Plantation and began to clear land for plantations. The plantation system emerged in South Carolina and Georgia during this time frame, and it soon spread throughout much of North America. By 1815, Plantation had become one of the largest slave-owning areas in the United States. The end of slavery inFlorida led to a new era for Plantations. With freed slaves becoming available for hire, many plantations began to fall apart. Many were sold off or leased out to other businesses during this time frame. However, some continued operations until around 1930s when they were finally abandoned due to lack of resources or competition from newer development."

Plantation, Florida is a small town in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Sanford Combined Statistical Area. The first mention of Plantation in Polk County was in 1821 when James A. Wilkinson and his son-in-law, George Cushing, bought 1,000 acres (400 hectares) of land south of Sanford for $4 per acre. In 1830, Wilkinson donated another 400 acres (160 hectares) to help build Fort Pierce on the mainland opposite thethen existing Indian mound on which Sanford had been founded. In 1827, Landon Carter purchased 2 square miles (5 km²) of land north of Plantation from Wilkinson for $2 per acre. That same year Captain John Fenton acquired 4 square miles (10 km²) northwest of Plantation from Carter for $8 per acre. By 1840 there were eighteen landowners in Polk County with over one thousand acres (400 hectares). Most early settlers were farmers who grew corn and cotton; however some also operated blacksmiths and grist mills around Plantation until about 1900 when white residents started moving into the area to take advantage of its unique natural resources – such as phosphate deposits – which were becoming difficult to find elsewhere in Florida. In 1868 an act was passed by Congress providing for public education in Seminole Territory; therefore, Palm Beach County was created within Seminole Territory on March 6th that year and Plantation became part of that county’s jurisdiction. On November 3rd 1898, a portion of Pinellas County east of St Petersburg became independent as Hillsborough Counties due to a special act by Governor Stevens Jarrell allowing this change without voter approval pursuant to Article XII Section 3(a)(1)of the State Constitution creating new counties when boundaries change without popular vote following annexation or secession by other states since Florida had become a state only two years earlier! plantations plantation
