Plantation was founded in 1740 by Captain James Cook and his crew of four ships. It became a British Colony in 1814, and then the United States of America in 1821. The first gun safe built on Plantation was probably built by Captain John Smith in 1775. He bought land near the mouth of the St. Johns River, which he used as a trading post with Native Americans. As time passed, different people added their names to the property around the safe house - including Colonel John Smith himself, who lived on Plantation until his death in 1802. Plantation is a small town in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,193 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jacksonville metropolitan area. The date of settlement for Plantation is unknown but it likely occurred during the early 1800s. The first white settlers arrived in 1821 and began to build homes and plantations in what is now Polk County. By 1835, about 60 families had settled at Plantation; most were developers who bought land from the Seminole Indians and built homes on their properties. Plantation experienced growth during the late 19th century as cotton production increased in north Florida and around Tampa Bay while sugarcane production declined in south Florida. In 1925, Plantation became one of two towns in South Florida (the other being Miami) that established city status when it ratified a charter granting its citizens voting rights and incorporation as a municipality with City Hall located within its boundaries. During World War II, Plantation helped raise money for the US military through contributions to local charities such as Stonington Hospital Foundation and Boy Scouts of America troop camps which were used by troops stationed overseas. After the war ended, many residents turned their attention to farming with crops such as corn, beans, rice, vegetables, fruits (especially oranges), cattle, pigs and poultry remaining major attractions into the 21st century. A number of small businesses have been located within or adjacent to Plantation over time including C&B Tire & Service Center (now Enterprise Rent-A-Car), Ford Parts Plus (now Jiffy Lube), Floristone Nursery & Banquet Center (now Flowers Unlimited), Oldsmobile dealership (closed 2009) and Sibley's Bakery until December 9th 2012 when they closed all doors due to high water levels from Hurricane Sandy which destroyed much of central plantations waterfront property along Nassau Avenue affecting over 100 businesses within minutes including many that were inside buildings prior to flooding starting affecting them as well as damage done to roofs/windows/doors etc... Many residents decided not to rebuild following high water levels so some structures remain standing today testifying to how resilient these communities are!

By 1821, Plantation had become an important center for sugarcane production and attracted wealthy American planters who leased their land to tenant farmers. In response to the Panic of 1825, manyplantations closed their doors and many residents lost their jobs. However, some survivors formed a society called "The Gentry" to keep their homes and properties intact. The Gentry successfully defended Plantation against creditors and local pirates until 1840 when they were forced to sell their holdings to new investors. By 1850, Plantation had been reduced to a handful of abandoned houses and farms. However, its legacy continues today as one of Florida's most unique communities with its own history and culture

By 1824, Plantation had become one of the most important slave-holding societies in America. Over time, Plantation became known for its luxurious living conditions and its strategic location on navigable waterways. The Plantation Society continued to thrive into the 1840s, thanks to their investments in infrastructure such as roads and canals. In 1851, however, white supremacists destroyed many of Plantation's properties during a civil war that erupted across America. As a result of this event, many of Plantation's slaves fled to newly emancipated African Americans living outside Florida. From then until 1865, only a handful of surviving members of the Society remain today.
