In recent years new development has again begun to overtake older neighborhoods creating challenges for planners who have tried to make sense of all that has happened within what once seemed like one contiguous community: now divided between downtown (the business district), North Main Street/Old Town (the residential neighborhood east-of-Main), University Avenue (the commercial district west-of-University), North Park Boulevard (a parkland north-of-Park Boulevard) and East Lake Road/Lake Worth Boulevard (a shopping center south-of-East Lake Road). Despite these challenges some locals maintain hope for a return to former glory days thanks to redevelopment projects like "Riverwalk," which will create more than 1 million square feet (100 acres) including office space, retail stores and restaurants on 6 interconnected blocks stretching from Canal Walk downriver towards Gulfstream Park; along with plans for another riverwalk extension called "Walkway" connecting Riverwalk with Gulfstream Park; something that would bring jobs backNorth Main Street/Old Town while also reversing gentrification trends that have seen much housing destruction near University Avenue especially since Hurricane Irma struck last September killing several people inPlantaCity; most notably two brothers whose home Frontage Roads knocked out during Irma -one developer said they may be able to rebuild but only if they can find another home developer willingto invest millions plntctly adjacent their property". While some residents feel squeezed between rising rents on either side or lack thereof outside development opportunities after Irma many remain optimistic about what could happen if certain conditions are met including investing significantly in transportation infrastructure so residents can easily access downtown amenities as well as increasing funding for schools so kids can stay safe online etc.; all things that seem increasingly unlikely given current economic conditions across much of America where joblessness rates continue above 10%.
