Plant City is a city in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 11,813 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Sanford Metropolitan Statistical Area. A post office called Plant City was established in 1892, and remained in operation until it were discontinued in 1954. Shooting stick manufacturers began producing targets for different types of firearms including pistols, shotguns and rifles. Target holders continued to be produced until the early 21st century. By then, traditional methods such as hold-and-releasehooting had largely replaced shooting with targets as a source of exercise for gunners.

Plant City is a town in Alachua County, Florida, United States. The population was 12,032 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tallahassee–Ft. Lauderdale Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded by settlers from Georgia in 1835 and named for Englishman John Cropston (1796-1867). A post office called Plant City was established in 1838, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1893. The first school opened in 1839 and the first store on November 1, 1840. In 1850, a steamboat arrived from New Orleans with 212 passengers and mail to Jacksonville; all but one disembarked at Plant City. The only passenger to disembark at PlantCity was Wm Henson (1807-1892). On May 22, 1861, Confederate soldiers burned the Union Arsenal near Plant City after retreating from Fort Donelson during the Battle of Gaines's Mill. In 1865, President Abraham Lincoln issued an Executive Order requiring all Confederate officers who were living within two hundred miles of Washington D.C., to leave that state or face arrest and detention without right of trial. This order caused many plantation owners to flee their homes across the Southwestern border into Alabama or Mississippi where they could still be held liable for taxes owed to the Confederacy under law as well as possible execution if caught crossing into those states unregistered again – hence why so few people left Plant City during those days when compared to other towns throughout Southeast Florida affected by secessionism such as Apalachia or Winter Haven – both located less than 150 miles away from Atlanta thanks largely to railroad transportation opportunities then available statewide. Plant City residents voted overwhelmingly not to secede from the United States on December 16th 1861 while Confederate forces were occupying most of Southeast Florida including plant city making it much easier for them do so without any local resistance along with ample warning given through newspapers and public speeches given by Unionists such as James Kenedy (1799-1868) backed by General Robert Ewell (briefly lieutenant general during Sherman's march through Georgia), Governor Perry Barbour (bronze star army officer killed at Chickamauga), Mayor Jno Fenton (barrister general killed leading Peach Land detachment against Sherman) among others before his death early next day surrounded by Confederate forces outside his home surrounded again soon afterwards also resulting in numerous quick executions including Jno Fenton's father Colby who had tried unsuccessfully several times prior to this point under orders from higher up Rebel officials himself having been told very clearly that he would likely meet this fate unless he stopped trying futilely because unlike other members of his family like his brother Majestic run half way around the bend successfully hiding out inside a nearby farmstead before being captured alive Captured Alive When His Father Colby Failed To Stop Trying And Became A POW In Chattanooga) which eventually led more northerners like Samuel Morse(1800-1865) moving southward into what became known today’s Tampa Bay area further eastward towards St Petersburg proper following lead setters such as Edwin Land(1801-1881), businessmen George Eastman(18501927) founder of Kodak Camera & Film Company & inventor dynamite later used widely throughout Central America/South America etc going back centuries earlier originally coming overland via Mexico etc rather than being forced southward along hostile Native American territories etc becoming ever increasingly difficult due mainlyto cultural differences between southern whites who continued living primarily off European land resources while indigenous nations were gradually losing access both territorially and culturally due largelyto Europeanintroductionof diseases like smallpox which then rapidly spread westwards causing mass extinctions across much of North America wiping out millions more people than even Columbus did when he discovered these new continents some 13 years earlier! Much has changed since then including events such as Obama’s election 2008 which occurred just weeks after historically significant Hurricane Andrew made landfall devastating plant city killing many citizens & wounding dozens more making this particular event quite literally “the Event That Changed Americas” affecting everyone living within its jurisdiction whether they knew it or not including current residents here actual descendants / affiliate thereof directly descended from those original settler families responsible for founding & maintaining plant city today]
The Plant City area in central Florida was first settled by Native Americans in the late 16th century. The area was later purchased by the English and Spanish, and it became a part of Florida during the mid-17th century. In 1821, Plant City became part of Jacksonville and was renamed after Jacksonville, England. In 1907, Plant City incorporated as a city and remained an unincorporated community until 1954.
