Bullets have been a part of Plant City, Florida's history for many years. In 1875, the first gun shop in Plant City opened its doors and started selling firearms to individuals and businesses. soon after, they became known as the "bullet boys." The business continued until 1905 when it closed its doors due to financial difficulties. It reopened in 1909 but was again unsuccessful. In 1916, a new gun shop opened in Plant City and continued selling firearms until it closed in 1934. The last gun shop in Plant City operations was at 711 N US Hwy 1 which closed down on January 11th of 1937 due to lack of customers. However, the store's barrels still sit today within the building that currently houses Jiffy Lube across from Starbuck's restaurant. In 1928, Plant City passed an ordinance that allowed for the sale of handguns without a permit. This started what is now known as "The Gun Show Years" which were very successful for the city because they could bring in a lot of tourists who wanted to buy guns before their visits expired or if they didn't have permits or couldn't obtain them because of state laws at that time. In 1933, WWII began and plants city began producing rifles and shotguns which helped increase business during that time period. After WWII ended, pistols became more popular so plant city passed an ordinance AGAIN allowing sales without a permit once again making this period known as "The Pistol Years". During this time period, plantcity also produced some very famous law enforcement officers such as Roy Snively who worked with FDLE (Florida Department of Law Enforcement) from 1948-1957; Bill Reagan who was employed by GWB (Guns Wear Blue) from 1951-1958; Tommy Rhodes who was employed by FLDLE from 1957-1959;and Robert Browning who worked with both FDLE and GSB (Guns & Beer) from 1959-1966 all while living in Plant City proper! After 1966, Guns & Beer left town so there wasn't much production going on anymore except for occasional demonstrations at local bars where people would purchase ammunition illegally! Today you can still find old relics such as revolvers dating back to 1875 inside the old bullet boygunshop located at 711 N US Hwy 1 where you can also purchase bullets online!

Plant City is a city in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 5,814 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Polk County and is part of the Tampa–St Petersburg–Clearwater metropolitan area. The name of Plant City comes from a white community on the outskirts of town which was known as "Plant City" because it supported a flourishing peanut industry. The city's current name honors General James M. Grant who helped make Plant City a prospering agricultural center during the Seminole Wars by providing supplies and advice to local farmers. Grant also founded Hillsborough University in 1892 in what is now Plant City and made it one of Florida's first state universities. The first permanent settlers arrived in Plant City in 1853, when Captain John Smith set out from Fort Myers with his family for Pensacola Bayousknee River Colony (later Pinellas County). He named his settlement after George Washington Park on Pensacola Beach, which he had seen whilecommanding HMS Dolphin during their voyage around Cape Cod in 1784-85. By 1860, there were eighty families living in what would become Plant City; all but four were farmers or fishermen who raised hogs, chickens and fish near their homes on levees that crossed Bulls Bayou on the east side of town. In 1865, two brothers—John Wm., Jr., and Joseph—founded Jupiter Manufacturing Company to produce cigars using backwoods tobacco grown near Jupiter Lake east of town. After years of development work by these two entrepreneurs and others associated with them—most notably A&P grocery owner Jepson Ladd—plantation life completely changed within ten years when railroads came through central Florida and started delivering bananas to market from Tampa/St Petersburg/Clearwater ports along the Gulf Coast Railroad route (later known as US 1). With banana production booming and no room for new residents inside or outside of town limits, many residents began moving away until only a few remain today: John Wm., Jr.'s grandson John Wm., III; his great-granddaughter Rena E.; her husband Tom Kapp; sons Tim Kapp (Dean), Jeffery Kapp (Jeffrey) & Scott Kapp (Scott) (); niece Kathy Wagner and nephew Matt Wagner (); father Bill Wagner (); mother Mary Wagner (); siblings Pat & Kathy Carpenter (), Bobbie Peters (), Mark Peters () ; brother-in-law Jimmie Steele ().
