In 1926 the annexation of Dunedin made pinellas park an even larger city with 7 wards (2 cities + 6 towns) & 10 precincts (4 villages). In 1955 Pinellas Park lost its charter as an independent city & became one of 5 counties in Florida that merged into Tampa Bay Area Authority – now known as Tampa Bay Mayor’s Office Regional Government Services Division (RBOMO/TBOA). Pinellas Park has seen some growth since then; starting with annexations of other municipalities east of US 1 such as St Petersburg and Tucker in 1998&1999 and recent annexations including Plant City in 2004 followed by Largo in 2006; all these were done to make way for new development within RBOMO/TBOA boundaries - higher density areas near I-275 south, Busch Gardens Williamsburg north & Pierce's Island westward towards downtown Tampa while keeping much of rural farmland around town unchanged along with some modest housing developments like Lakeshore Estates which opened in 2007 just outside town limits adjacent to I-275 freeway exit #3B on Lake Okeechobee Boulevard). Parkin donated land for a public park in what is now known as downtown Pinellas Park. At that time, it was an agricultural district which included much of present-day Tampa and St Petersburg Counties as well as parts of Clearwater and Dunedin Counties eastward into Hillsborough County. Through donations and bequests from many notable people including oilman John D’Arcy McGee, citrus rancher James Aiken Jr., businessmen J & C Marriott and Clarence Hilliard, the park evolved into what it is today-a municipally owned (and currently open tothe public) park administered by the Cityof PinellasPark Management District which includes all 11 municipalities within Greater Tampa Bay Regional Council on Governmental Affairs (RTBA). Today’s civic amenities include baseball diamonds, tennis courts, swimming pool & beach accessmall; a library/golf center; restaurants; daycare centers; fireplaces; sculpture gardens; large late 19th century homes (known collectively as “The Domain”); plus over 2 miles of trails that are open year round to residents and visitors alike! The first recorded game ever played in what would become Pinellas Park took place on October 5th 1893 when 14-year old Rufus Hargrave took his ball out front of Municipal Hall against 15-year old Arthur Sippy who had also just started playing organized baseball! Hargrave would score three runs off Sippy which helped lead to a 6-3 victory for Municipal Hall over West Pointe Station Club! In 1897 Municipal Hall again hosted a game when Clearwater Township team played against Nacogdoches Parish team ! This particular contest ended in a tie after both teams combined for 138 hits !! The following season saw new ballpark construction begin with Citizens Bank Field opening on March 30th 1898!! The record attendance for this event occurred when 24,794 fans packed Charter Hall watching Clearwater Tigers play their interleague opponents from St Petersburg !! After Citizens Bank Field closed its doors for good in 1901 due primarily to lack of business interest there were several attempts by various groups to reopening it including but not limited to: Anna Bogan (1902), Harry Chandler (1903), Alex Cummings (1904), Rollie Fenton( 1905), Al Ladd ( 1906), William Paton McCarthy ( 1907) In 1909 Voters passed an ordinance authorizing acquisition by municipality of lands west side bayou leading southwesterly along US Highway 20 thence northwesterly across town line then easterly along Loop Road thereto lying between State Street NW & US Highway 98W thence northeasterly along US Highway 98W throght town line then easterly along Loop Road thence westerl
