It is part of the Tampa–St Petersburg–Clearwater Metropolitan Statistical Area. The area now known as Pinellas Park was originally called Indian Key and was land owned by the Menard family. On October 15, 1868, James H. Menard donated 5 acres (20 hectares) to Pinellas County for use as a public park. The first public golf course in Pinellas Park was built on what is now Oak Hill Road in 1924 by Johnnie Horton and others for $27,500. It became one of the first courses in Florida to be龙岩结构 golf courses with an 8-hole layout that cost $75 per person to play. In 1938 Captain Rufus Easley donated 9 acres (30 hectares) of piney woods to pine park for a new baseball stadium and practice facility which would become home to the St Petersburg Aces of the American League (now Tampa Bay Rays). Pinellas Park is a census-designated place in Pinellas County, Florida, United States. The population was 5,835 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tampa–St Petersburg–Clearwater Metropolitan Statistical Area. The area now known as Pinellas Park was first settled by Seminole Indian chiefs in the late 18th century. In 1849, General James K. Polk and his army invaded Florida to suppress a slave uprising; when they reached Tampa Bay, they found the bay empty and decided to make their way inland instead. They founded what would become Pinellas Park on land that now forms much of northeastern Clearwater County. The following year, Congress passed an act authorizing President Franklin D. Roosevelt to survey and purchase 640 acres (246 ha) of land for Pinellas Park in clear Lake Okeechobee terrain near US 441 and US 10 south of Live Oak Boulevard in St Petersburg Township. This large tract became known as "The Wilderness" because it lacked roads or other means of access until after World War II when developers built various subdivisions thereabouts including Starwood Village and Regency Oaks Estates neighborhoods today’s Osceola Hills subdivision and Sunrise Lakes subdivision across US 441 from Gussie's Restaurant on Gulfstream Highway one mile (1 km) east of State Road 723 which served as the original town center before Interstate 495 was constructed two miles (3 km) away). In 1955, a new community called Royal Palm City was developed adjacent to Pinellas Park on some originally Seminole Indian reserve land adjoining Clearwater County north of present-day Midtown Pasco Avenue in unincorporated St Petersburg Township northwest of US 41 exit 231A (now S Atlantic Ave). Royal Palm City quickly outgrown its initial development limits so another shopping mall – Royal Palm Mall – was built nearby with office space and other amenities such as tennis courts within minutes' walk for residents who commuting into downtown St Petersburg via I-495 or SR 723/US 41 northbound from Midtown Pasco Avenue where stately old homes still stand today including Mrs Putney's pink house which once housed county government offices during early 20th century pineappleseed production days; this also included King's Hardware store building at lower right corner lot just inside city limits back then along Boca Raton Freeway leading northeast past Interstate 95 towards Oldsmar Beach where AutoZone used to be located until it closed down around 1990 amidst complaints about high traffic volumes caused by numerous family vehicles using power lines running through residential streets without proper streetlights while parked on driveways without ever leaving their cars overnight! It has been generally agreed that Pinellas Park played an important role in early 20th century pineweed production activities hereabouts due primarily to its close location to Kissimmee River valley where many families harvested wild strawberries during summer months yielding about 10 tons per acre product before refrigeration arrived later that decade. Pinellas Park was founded in 1859 by Capt. William Troup and his wife, Rachel. The first post office in Pinellas Park was established in 1861. In 1865, the area became part of the newly created County of Palm Beach. Incorporated in 1871, Pinellas Park's first mayor was Wm. H. Brownell. In 1915, a new park was built on what is now Northwest Fourth Street and it quickly became one of the largest public parks in South Florida with over 100 acres (40 hectares). Today, Pinellas Park features a variety of sports fields, picnic areas, and playgrounds as well as several historic buildings including the Administration Building from 1916-1918 and the Library from 1923-1927.
