The town has a population of 924 as of the 2010 census. As one of only two towns in Pasco County with over 1,000 residents (the other being Port Charlotte), Pinellas Park has long been considered a bedroom community for nearby Tampa and St Petersburg. In recent years its growth has been hampered by high levels of crime rates, which have kept it relatively safe for recreationalists but have also made it difficult to maintain necessary infrastructure such as schools and fire departments. The first inhabitants of what would become Pinellas Park were Menomonee Indians who lived near where the city now stands. Spanish settlers arrived in 1695 and named this tract "Las Islas". A land grant from King Philip II gave rise to what is now known as Citrusville Plantation on Clearwater Bayou east of present-day Pinellas Park; this plantation was later sold to Captain John Tryon who renamed it Fort Tryon after himself after becoming President George Washington's wartime military advisor during the Revolutionary War. In 1794 Colonel James Kenedy established a Ferry landing here on Clearwater Bayou for transporting goods across Tampa Bay between Tampa and Seminole Townsite on Hillsborough River; this landing served until 1865 when navigation around Hillsborough River became easier via canals built by Major General Andrew Jackson that crossed Tampa Bay at Whatley Point south of today's downtown Pinellas Park In 1837 Anna Maria Tallas forced her husband John Tallas Sr., Jr.'s brother Elias Tallas (who had married her sister) to sell 8 square miles (20 km²) within modern day Pinellas Park boundaries including their home place called "Emmalie" east of Clearwater Creek to build a new county seat at Fort Pierce; however they never moved there because they were afraid that their property would be confiscated if they did so This event is sometimes referred to as "The Captive Queen Incident". Also in 1837 Henry Clay committed suicide here while serving out time for treason charges against President Andrew Johnson In 1860 Jacksonville Landing opened up along Hillsborough River allowing shipping into/out of TampaBay bypassing old Hillsborough Bridge originally built by Spanish explorers under fortune cookie pronunciation Iberia—a name derived from early Portuguese maps which showed another large island adjacent to Pinewood Land about where Discovery Island now stands: hence marking off geographical territory more accurately than any European name could ever do given that no physical map existed indicating this situation At least five different maps were created depicting various aspects or alligator hunting rights regarding what would eventually become known as Everglades National Wildlife Refuge next door! During Reconstruction following Civil War many white men from northeast Florida relocated here due mainly to low costof living compared with back East– specifically Jacksonville – some formed cattle drives crossing Gulfstream Highway looking for land grants including those granted unto pineywoods near present day SanfordFloridairty hammock country full sun fall
The Pinellas Park area was first settled in the early 1800s by Seminole Indians. The area was later purchased by Colonel John Troup and became part of his estate. In 1884, Tampa Bay Electric Company was organized, and Pinellas Park became its corporate headquarters. The company remained here until 1959 when it moved to Clearwater.
