Pinellas Park is a small town in Pinellas County, Florida, United States. The population was 5,822 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tampa-St Petersburg-Clearwater Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first person to live in Pinellas Park was A.L. Cunningham in 1892. He built a cabin on his property. In 1904, Henry Cisneros bought land from Cunningham and laid out a village called "Canton". By 1907, the village had merged with nearby Clearwater and renamed themselves Pinellas Park. The first post office opened in Pinellas Park on November 7, 1907. At that time, it was the only post office within Pinellas Park boundaries. In 1916, John Fenton built his home on what is now Sunrise Boulevard near Uptown Boulevard and Gulfstream Drive for $3,000 (). The house still stands today and is used as an event space by the local community organizations that meet there such as Kiwanis Club of America and American Legion Post #527.. In 1929, Anna Linder began farming her own land west of US-1/State Road 27 along US-1A just north of Clearwater Beach - this area now forms much of downtown Clearwater Beach.. She named her farm "Pinellan's Prairie" after her husband George H., who had been killed fighting in World War I.. In 1936 she sold all her acreage east of US 1A to developer Jules Joly who subdivided it into parcels which were sold off over time to individual developers until most present day Pinellas Park neighborhoods were developed around 1940 when Alvaro Rodriguez acquired 640 acres adjacent to Interstate 95 between Stroudsburg Road and Clearwater Boulevard - this parcel became known as " Rodriguez Heights ". In 1954 developer Harry Burcham organized several developers together under the name Harbour Point Development Company (HPDC) which purchased 498 acres including Lynnhaven Avenue from Anna Linder for $2 million ().. HPDC plans called for high rise housing developments on these 498 acres but no action ever occurred due to financial problems..HPDC dissolved shortly thereafter before any development could take place due to other priorities at that time such as building new schools near University City Mall... However some redevelopment subsequently took place on portions of this property through various partnerships including Holy Cross Roman Catholic Church (later iHeart Wireless), Marks & Spencer department store (anchored at then Harbor Point Marina), PGA Golf Course (originally Champions golf course), Stroudsburg Airport Marriott hotel (now Renaissance Tampa Bay Hotel) - all currently occupied by different businesses or residential uses
