Pinellas Park is an unincorporated community in Pinellas County, Florida, United States. It is located on State Road 827 east of Clearwater and north of Gulf Breeze. As of the 2010 census, its population was 1,574. Pinellas Park was founded in 1892 by Scots-Irish immigrants as a small farming town on the shores of Clearwater Bay. The name came from "pines" (pronounced "pah-nuhs") that grew along the bay's shoreline. The original settlers were farmers who built homes out of logs and straw bales. They raised chickens, pigs, cows and horses. In 1916, local citrus grower J. Laughlin donated land to Pinellas Park to be used for a public golf course and citrus orchards. Today, Pinellas Park contains more than 40 Loop roads totaling , 12 tennis courts with a total capacity of 25 players per court, three baseball diamonds with a total capacity of 60 people each, five soccer fields with a total capacity of 25 people each, one pool with a surface area of , two libraries with an aggregate reading area of 3 million books/year and two playgrounds with an aggregate play area of . In 1990, Pinellas Park was selected as one of ten communities in America experiencing growth at least 20 percent from 1990 through 2000 based on population size and economic development potential only; no environmental criteria were taken into consideration. In 2006 the City Council voted unanimously to annex adjacent unincorporated tracts drained by Gulfstream Boulevard which then had an estimated population over 1 thousand residents but no municipal services provided because the city had not received all annexation requests from these tracts’ owners since annexation became available in 2005! The annexed tracts have now reached 2 thousand residents! The annexation process began December 10th 2007 when Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans and destroyed most businesses within three blocks radius leaving many citizens jobless or underemployed even though they lived close by! After weeks long negotiations between city officials including myself we obtained eminent domain to take control over these properties so that our citizens could return to their homes! This allowed us to provide municipal services such as trash pickup without having any pain or inconvenience associated with it while also providing jobs for our citizens who are now living back home again! Pinellas Park, Florida is a town in southeastern Hillsborough County, Florida. The population was 10,851 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Tampa-St Petersburg- Clearwater metropolitan area. Pinellas Park was established on August 29, 1892 by J.M. Pine and his family as a post office within what is now Hillsborough County.[1] On November 3, 1907, Pinellas Park became an incorporated municipality with a land area of 6 square miles (15 km2). The first mayor was Worthy H. Stephenson who served until 1916 when he was succeeded by A.G. Smithwick and again from 1934 to 1938 by Ira Cope Ladd[2]. On February 14, 1951,[3] Pinellas Park merged with neighbouring Clearwater to form the new city of Tampa Bay.[4] In 1955,[5] Pinellas Park annexed much of Dania Beach which then formed its own municipal government separate from that of Tampa Bay for economic reasons related to the development of Dania Beach into an important bedroom community for Tampa Bay residents and tourists alike[6]. In 1978[7], following passage of the Tax Reform Act Amendments of 1976,[8], PinellasPark annexed more than half the unincorporated areas in Hillsborough County east of Interstate 75 including Ponte Vedra Beach and Saint Petersburg proper; this annexation created a total land area larger than any other municipality in Hillsborough County save St Petersburg itself which had already been organized into municipalities prior to 1975 [9]. In 1990,[10] following passage of Amendment 2 to the Florida Constitution repealing term limits on legislators,[11][12][13][14][15], Mayor Constantine Giannini successfully campaigned for re-election on promises to annex more territory - this time including Belleair beach - resulting in incorporation as a city on December 4th with an official name change from Ponte Vedra Beach City to Pinellas Park City under mayor Giannini’s leadership effective January 1st 1996. As such, Pinellas Park has continuously grown since its establishment as a small town thirty years ago – one that continues Today To Lead The Way In Economic Development And Respect For Human Rights!
