Pinellas Park is a small town in Pinellas County, Florida, United States. The population was 8,475 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tampa-St Petersburg- Clearwater, FL Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first European to visit what is now Pinellas Park was Captain James Cook on his third voyage of discovery in 1768. He named it "New Providence" after the English Virgin Mary's island of St Kitts and Nevis. In 1821, Captain John A. Mitchell founded a post office here with the name "Townsend". The first school in Pinellas Park was built in 1827 by teacher Mrs. Henson and students from Townsend Academy near Gulfport on the south side of Tampa Bay. In 1901, Pinellas Park had 1 store and 10 residents when it became a city under state law No. 5963 known as "Annexation Plan No. 3", which annexed all unincorporated portions of Hillsborough County east of US 41/42 including parts that are now Sunrise Boulevard and Dunedin Avenue (the eastern boundary for Dunedin). On November 7, 1907 the City Council voted 5-1 to change its charter to become an incorporated city with power to levy taxes like other municipalities within Hillsborough County On January 4, 1909 City Council passed bill No 9956 creating parks system with an initial budget $5 per day per park user In 1912 Mayor George Witte authorized purchase of tract 6 miles north and west (including present day Pinellas Park) from developer Rufus Sanger for $390K The park opened to the public on July 12th 1915 after being dedicated by Governor Manuel López de Santa Anna As Beaches go we have some really good ones here! Pinellas Park is a small town in Pasco County, Florida, United States. It is located on the Gulf of Mexico and has a population of about 8,000 people. The town was founded in 1892 by Greek immigrants who named it after Pinellas Key, an island in the Sarasota River system. In 1922, Pinellas Park became part of Tampa. In 1954, Pinellas Park incorporated as a city. It was then renamed to its current name in 1960 when Tampa merged with St Petersburg to form the new city of Tampa. As a result of its incorporation into Tampa, Pinellas Park lost some land and annexed by St Petersburg; but it regained most of its original acreage including the riverfront area that forms today's downtown core of Pinellas Park. The first post office opened at what is now the corner of Third Street and Enterprise Boulevard on October 25, 1892 (the location where present-day University Avenue meets Third Street). At that time there were only six residents in outpost called "Pinellas" – three men and three women who farmed their land around what is now Northwest Drive and Princeton Road. Residents began to arrive more frequently from nearby towns such as Largo and Clearwater which had become established as streetcar suburbs within Tampa over the previous several decades due to railroad mileage restrictions placed on towns along the northern periphery of Hillsborough County by Governor John A. Hill Sr.. By 1907 there were 60 residents living in outpost "Pinellas". Residents gradually bought or leased additional land until by 1915 they controlled nearly all available property within what would become Pinellas Park except for two tracts separated from the rest by Uptown Lake which formed today's downtown core - this area remained undeveloped until 1926 when developer Harry Hirschman purchased both tracts forming today's blockbusters: Hirschman's Company Center complex - home video store/mall known locally as "Hollywood" - movie theater - still being used extensively every day since 1926 Today much older buildings than those currently extant can be seen throughout downtown core including: Masonic Lodge #2 built c1900; First Baptist Church built 1893; Bank Of America Building erected 1909 - presently headquarters for Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office; Pritchett Block Gymnasium built 1921; Veterans Affairs Medical Center constructed 1941 The earliest reference to pine trees found near present-day downtown core may date back to 1865 when George Washington Carver planted saplings near his farmstead just east of US 192 north of Live Oak Road (now Gulfport Boulevard) . From these initial efforts many other years later numerouspine plantations were started throughout northwestern Pasco County ..… Pioneer growers like Jethro Gibbs Growing & Storage Co., Incorporated February 10th 1912 at 575 NW 2nd Ave., also started production here beginning 1916…. When tractors arrived soon thereafter early 20th century farmers turned their attention predominantly towards fruit trees such as figs apples grapes etc….. After World War II vast amounts OF MULTIPLE Fruits And Vegetables grew heremany folks nickname this Area “The Garden State” thruout history
